Mild aqueous detergent, e.g., shampoo, compositions are disclosed based on a mixture comprising anionic surfactant and amphoteric surfactant, such as betaines, present in the composition at a level of from about 0.75 to 1.25 parts by weight per part by weight of anionic surfactant. The compositions also contain one or a mixture of therapeutic agents such as climbazole or a mixture of climbazole and one or more co-therapeutics such as salicylic acid. The combination of mild surfactant system and therapeutic agent serve to prevent or treat mild skin disorders such as scalp itch and scalp irritation when applied to the scalp as a shampoo. Shampoo compositions also preferably contain one or more conditioning agents and suitable suspending agents.

A mild, non-irriatating hair conditioning shampoo is disclosed comprising an aqueous dispersion of a water-insoluble lipid phase, an anionic hair cleansing surfactant, an amphoteric surfactant present at a level of at least about 0.75 parts by weight per part by weight of said anionic surfactant, at least one hair conditioning, film forming, polycationic polymer soluble in the aqueous dispersion and 0-6% by weight, based on the weight of the shampoo, of a water-insoluble, non-volatile hair conditioning silicone, the water-insoluble lipid phase comprising at least one lipid soluble, emulsifiable, monocationic, quaternary ammonium compound or amine solubilized in a water-insoluble long chain lipid compound, the weight ratio of monocationic compound to the lipid compound in the lipid phase being in the range of from about 5:1 to about 1:10 and the molar ratio of anionic surfactant to water-insoluble cationic compound is greater than 2:1. The shampoo having no silicone possesses a high degree of style control properties. The shampoo containing silicone has a high degree of hair conditioning properties.

Low silicone hair conditioning shampoo and non-silicone hair

Hair rinse compositions, in emulsion or dispersion form, which condition the hair and facilitates setting thereof, includes a hair conditioning and emulsifying cationic compound, a water insoluble acrylic or acrylate polymer and a solvent which is a stabilizing and compatibilizing proportion of the composition comprising a higher aliphatic alcohol and/or alcohol ethoxylate, in an aqueous medium. The cationic compound is a quarternary ammonium salt preferably a higher alkyl trimethyl ammonium chloride and the polymer is preferably an acrylamide acrylate copolymer. Preferably solvents in the compositions are C.sub.9-20 aliphatic alcohols and/or C.sub.9-20 alcohol ethoxylates having less than 2 ethoxy groups per mole. The preferred emulsion, which is normally of the oil-in-water type, preferably includes propylene glycol and a nonionic surfactant, and the aqueous medium is preferably water, or is essentially water. The invention also includes processes for making and using the invented hair rinse compositions.

Conditioning rinse compositions which facilitates setting of hair

An aqueous hair conditioning shampoo comprising a hair-cleansing effective amount of an anionic surfactant comprising an alpha-olefin sulfonate, a hair-conditioning effective amount of a cationic polymer having a hair conditioning effect and a charge density greater than about 200, a water-insoluble hair conditioning agent and a dispersing agent which functions to stabilize the emulsion or suspension, and the remainder water.

Hair conditioning shampoo containing high charge density polymers

A hair conditioning shampoo, of improved fiber conditioning properties, includes an aminosilicone of the amodimethicone type, of a certain formula, and an aqueous medium for the aminosilicone, which serves as a carrier for it. Preferably, the carrier is an aqueous anionic shampoo medium that also contains a cationic surfactant hair conditioning agent, such as a quaternary ammonium salt, and more preferably it also contains hydrocarbon components, such as microcrystalline wax and petrolatum and/or polyethylene and mineral oil, which promote further improvement in conditioning effects on human hair. The invention is also of hair conditioning processes and combined shampooing and hair conditioning operations, and of processes for manufacturing the invented conditioning shampoos.

Hair conditioning shampoos containing aminosilicone conditioning agent

Liquid fiber-treating and skin-treating compositions include surfactant, water insoluble treating material, water and long chain alcohol or derivative thereof, which stabilizes the liquid so as to allow storage at elevated temperatures, such as those which can be reached during storage in warmer climates, and which also helps to make fiber- and skin-treating materials more substantive to fibers and skin. Among the various types of compositions benefited are shampoos, perfuming shampoos, hair conditioning compositions, hair setting compositions, anti-dandruff preparations, fabric softening compositions, antistatic compositions, detergents, skin cleansers, skin lotions and sunscreens.

Stabilized hair-treating compositions

A fiber conditioning composition, which is preferably a shampoo for human hair, in stable and pearlescent liquid or semi-liquid or gel condition, is an emulsion or dispersion which includes a surfactant, a water insoluble fiber conditioning agent, a long chain saturated primary alcohol or derivative thereof, which stabilizes the emulsion or suspension and makes it pearlescent, and an aqueous medium, which may also contain other components of such fiber conditioning and shampoo compositions. In the preferred shampoos an anionic detergent is present, which is preferably a mixture of higher fatty alcohol sulfate and higher fatty alcohol ethoxylate sulfate, the long chain saturated primary alcohol (or derivative) is of an average of 30 to 40 carbon atoms (ethoxylated such alcohols may also be employed, at least in part) and the water insoluble conditioning agent is a silicone (very preferably a certain type of aminosilicone), a polyethylene, a paraffin, an isoparaffin, a microcrystalline wax, a C.sub.18-36 (mixed) fatty acid or triglyceride, a higher fatty alcohol ester of a higher fatty acid (such as stearyl stearate), beeswax, or any mixture thereof, with the more preferred shampoos containing conditioning agents which include the aminosilicone in mixture with one or more of the polyethylene, microcrystalline wax, petrolatum, paraffin and isoparaffin, plus a cationic hair conditioning agent, which is preferably a quaternary ammonium salt. The disclosed invention also includes processes in which the compositions are used to condition or to clean and condition fibrous materials, such as human hair on the head.

Hair conditioning shampoo containing long chain alcohol component

A composition of particulate barium sulfate combined with one or more coreactants selected from the group consisting of a silicone free of amino groups, a long chain fatty alcohol and a long chain fatty acid amide has been found to be effective as a hair conditioner. The claimed compositions may also contain conventional surface-active agents, emulsifiers, stabilizers, and the like. In aqueous dispersion, these compositions impart improved body, manageability and style retention to hair.
