A radio frequency (RF) electrical contact includes an electrical contact having a stationary electrical contact member and a movable electrical contact member that is received by the stationary electrical contact member. The movable electrical contact member is movable between an initial position and a mated position. The movable electrical contact member can contact the stationary electrical contact member at a stationary or fixed contact location.

Impedance controlled electrical contact

Connector with linear coaxial, right angle coaxial and optical connectors

A subminiature coaxial connector including a matched impedance plug and jack for coupling printed circuit boards, RF modules, coaxial cables and the like, and minimizing RF signal losses and/or degradations. The plug and jack each comprises a coaxial structure including an outer tubular conductor and a center contact held in place by a dielectric sleeve within the outer tubular conductor. The geometries of these elements are such that when the plug and jack are fully joined, the elements are coextensive and butt-mated, without steps, gaps or other discontinuities.

Coaxial connector

In a multifunction electronic connector, spring loaded contacts are eliminated in favor of conductive bonds or terminations using solder, conductive adhesive, conductive epoxy or the like. Electronic components, which may comprise capacitors, resistors, inductors, varistor components or other passive or active components or combinations thereof, are disposed within cavities in an insulating housing so that terminals at first ends thereof are in direct contact with and are conductively bonded to a plurality of contacts disposed within apertures in the housing. At the same time, terminals at the opposite ends of the components also make direct contact with and are conductively bonded to a terminal member mounted at the bottom of the body. Where the circuit configurations of the connector require, the ends of the contacts are formed into contact tails which extend into contact with and are conductively bonded to other portions of the terminal member. The terminal member may comprise a planar substrate which is generally parallel with the contacts, and the portion thereof in contact with the lower terminals of the electronic components may comprise an electrical grounding member. Alternatively, the grounding member may comprise a separate ground plane soldered or otherwise conductively bonded to the substrate and having compliant beams extending upwardly therefrom and into contact with the lower terminals of the electronic components.

Multifunction electronic connector

A first connector (12, FIG. 2) is constructed so when it is unmated from a second connector (14), front contact devices (32) of the first connector are switched from connections to conductors (16) leading to circuit component (70) to connection to a ground plane (110). The first connector comprises a front insert assembly (22) that includes a plurality of front contact devices (32), and a rear insert assembly (50) that includes a plurality of rear contacts (62). When the second connector fully mates with the first one (FIG. 3), the second connector pushes the front insert assembly to a rearward position (22B), against the force of a spring (40), to cause the front contact devices to mate with the rear contacts. When the second connector unmates from the first one, the spring moves the front insert assembly to the forward position. During forward movement, the front contact devices engage the ground plane (110), to thereby ground the front contact devices when they are not mated to the rear contacts.

Switching connector apparatus

A connector contact is described, of the type that has a platform (50, FIG. 2) which holds a circuit component (52) and a grounding conductor (54), which provides hermetic sealing of the component. The circuit component has bottom and top terminals (70, 72, FIG. 5) each joined by a coupling layer (74, 76) of high surface energy material such as solder, respectively to the platform and to a finger (60) of the grounding conductor. Each coupling layer overhangs the circuit component to leave a surrounding layer portion (80, 82). An encapsulant includes a moisture-proof inner portion (90) which surrounds the component and which extends between and bonds to the surrounding portions (80, 82) of the lower and upper coupling layers.

Connector with sealed component contact

A contact assembly for installation in an electrical connector, provides effective electromagnetic filtering in a simple, compact, and rugged construction that facilitates in-field replacement of a damaged contact assembly. The contact assembly includes a signal conductor, a diode for diverting high voltages on the signal conductor to ground, and a 'pi' filter for filtering out unwanted frequencies. The 'pi' filter includes a ferrite bead inductor coupled to the signal conductor and a first capacitor coupling a location of the signal conductor on a first side of the inductor to ground. The other capacitor of the 'pi' filter is formed by the capacitance of the diode, with the diode connected to a signal conductor location on a second side of the inductor, and with the capacitance of the diode similar or equal to that of the first capacitor. The diode is mounted in a notch of the signal conductor, the ferrite bead inductor lies immediately forward of the notch, and the first capacitor lies immediately forward of the ferrite bead. A ground conductor has a sleeve portion that immediately surrounds both the first capacitor and the ferrite bead, and has a finger contacting the diode. Solder holds the finger of the ground conductor in place both mechanically and electrically. A quantity of epoxy fills the remaining notch area and forms the middle of the assembly with a cylindrical periphery to facilitate insertion and removal from a long narrow hole in the connector.

Filter contact

An electrical connector containing removable contacts upon which there are mounted electrical circuit components. One or more such components may be mounted on the side of each contact body. A spring provides electrical connection between the components and the grounding plate in the connector containing openings into which the contacts are removably mounted.
