New water-dispersible or water-soluble sulphonated polyesters with a number molecular mass lower than 20000, exhibiting a sulphur weight content of the order of 0.5 to 10% and a hydroxyl functional group content, expressed as OH equivalent/kg of polymer, higher than 0.2. They may be employed as antisoiling and/or antiredeposition agents and optionally detergents in detergent compositions, in rinsing, softening or antisoiling treatment compositions, for washing with or without pretreatment, rinsing, softening or the antisoiling treatment of textiles, especially those polyester-based.

Sulphonated polyesters as finishing agents in detergent, rinsing, softening and textile treatment compositions

Laundry treatment compositions, especially detergent compositions or rinse conditioners, which deposit cellulosic polymers or related polysaccharide fabric rebuild agents onto textile fabrics are described. Such agents are used for laundering cellulosic fabrics such as cotton, to compensate for gradual loss of fibrous material on repeated washing. Preferred rebuild agents are cellulose monoacetate, cellulose hemisuccinate and other cellulose esters.

Treatment for fabrics

A soil-repellent treatment method for articles based on woven cotton, wherein an amphiphilic soil-repellent agent soluble or dispersible in the treatment medium is deposited on the article during one or more washing, rinsing and/or softening or dying steps, is disclosed. Said soil-repellent agent comprises at least one unit with a function (FAd) capable of being absorbed onto the surface of the cotton by electrostatic interaction; and at least one hydrophobic unit (MH) capayble of configuring said agent at the cotton/water interface. A soil-repellent agent comprising at least one unit with a cationic function (MC) capable of being absorbed onto the surface of the cotton, and the counter-ion thereof, as well as at least one hydrophobic unit (MH) containing at least four carbon atom chemically bonded to the unit having said cationic function (MC) via an oligomeric, polymeric or copolymeric vinyl alcohol chain, is also disclosed.

Soil-repellent agent and process for the treatment of articles based on woven cotton

A laundry treatment composition comprising a water-soluble or water-dispersible rebuild agent for deposition onto a fabric during a treatment process wherein the material undergoes during the treatment process, a chemical change by which change the affinity of the material for the fabric is increased.

Ceric oxide particulates having a specific surface of at least 190 m.sup.2 /g, measured after calcination at a temperature of from 350.degree. to 450.degree. C., and a specific surface of at least 15 m.sup.2 /g after calcination at 800.degree. Particulate and coarse ammonium rare earth double oxalate crystals, readily converted into rare earth oxide particles by simple calcination, e.g., yttrium oxide particles, are prepared by (a) intimately admixing, in an aqueous medium, (i) at least one rare earth neutral oxalate with (ii) at least one precursor compound adapted to liberate ammonium ions in water and (iii) at least one precursor compound adapted to liberate oxalate ions in water, (b) separating the double oxalate precipitate thus formed, and (c), optionally, washing and drying such double oxalate precipitate.

Preparation of ammonium rare earth double oxalates and rare earth oxides

Particulate ammonium rare earth double oxalate crystals, homogeneous in particle size and having a narrow particle size distribution and readily converted into rare earth oxide particles by simple calcination, e.g., yttrium oxide particles, are prepared by (a) intimately admixing, in an aqueous medium, (i) at least one precursor compound adapted to liberate oxalate ions in aqueous solution with (ii) at least one water-soluble rare earth compound and (iii) at least one ammonium salt, (b) separating the double oxalate precipitate thus formed, and (c), optionally, washing and drying such double oxalate precipitate.

Novel rare earth oxides having a large specific surface of at least 40 m.sup.2 /g, well adapted for catalysis, are prepared (i) by reacting at least one rare earth salt with a strong base in the presence of carboxylate ions, or by reacting at least one rare earth carboxylate with a strong base, to produce a true rare earth hydroxide, (ii) separating the precipitate thus produced, and then (iii) washing and (iv) calcining such precipitate.

Morphologically improved ceric oxide particulates having a grain size distribution such that the mean diameter of the aggregates thereof ranges from 0.2 to 1 .mu.m, are conveniently prepared by (i) hydrolyzing an aqueous solution of a cerium (IV) salt in an acid medium, in the presence of an aqueous colloidal dispersion of a cerium (IV) compound, (ii) separating the resulting precipitate, and (iii) heat treating said separated precipitate, advantageously by calcination at elevated temperatures.

Morphologically improved ceric oxide particulates

Mixed polysaccharide compositions, well adopted for flocculating/precipitating solid particulates from liquid dispersions thereof and for the shaping of insulating articles therefrom, comprise (i) at least one succinoglycan polysaccharide, the basic recurring structural unit of which comprising glucose, galactose and succinyl moieties, and (ii) at least one natural polysaccharide or derivative thereof.

Mixed polysaccharide precipitating agents and insulating articles shaped

Mixed polysaccharide compositions, well adopted for flocculating/precipitating solid particulates from liquid dispersions thereof and for the shaping of insulating articles therefrom, comprise (i) at least one polysaccharide prepared by microbial fermentation, the basic recurring structural unit of which comprising both glucose and rhamnose moieties, and (ii) at least one cationic natural polysaccharide or derivative thereof.

Highly concentrated, aqueous colloidal dispersions of a cerium (IV) compound, adapted for the impregnation of catalyst supports, are prepared by reacting an aqueous solution of a cerium (IV) salt with a base, to precipitate a certain cerium hydroxynitrate, separating and washing said precipitate, and then dispersing the washed precipitate in an aqueous acid medium.
