A method of potentiating musculoskeletal effect of one or more anabolic amino acids in an individual in need thereof can include administering to the individual in need thereof a composition containing the one or more anabolic amino acids, the composition also containing one or more autophagy-inducing amino acids in a total amount effective for the composition to be at least neutral regarding autophagy. In another aspect, a method of overcoming one or more negative effects of one or more anabolic amino acids by preventing degenerative processes related to loss of autophagy can include administering to an individual in need thereof a composition containing the one or more anabolic amino acids, the composition further containing the one or more autophagy-inducing amino acids in a total amount effective for the composition to be at least neutral regarding autophagy.

Compositions and methods using one or more autophagy-inducing amino acids to potentiate musculoskeletal effect of one or more anabolic amino acids

The older adult can be an elderly individual and/or can have a condition that is one or more of frailty, pre-frailty, sarcopenia, recovering from sarcopenia, malnutrition, at risk of malnutrition, undergoing rehabilitation, and being scheduled to undergo rehabilitation, disorders impacting mobility such as osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, pre-osteoarthritis, osteopenia, cognitive decline. In a non-limiting example of the composition, the at least one ingredient for muscle and/or bone quality and the at least one ingredient for joint quality include a protein source, omega-3 fatty acids, and a polyphenol.

Nutritional composition for treating or preventing impaired mobility

A composition contains curcumin and can treat or prevent sarcopenia, reduce a loss of muscle functionality (e.g. muscle strength, gait speed, etc.), increase muscle functionality, and/or improve recovery of muscle functionality after muscle atrophy. The composition can be administered to an individual who is elderly and/or frail, optionally in a composition that further includes an omega-3 fatty acid and/or a protein source.
