A mold 300 for making a member having at least one first section of a first material and at least one second section of a second material includes first and second plates or mold halves 332,334 adapted to cooperate with each other when positioned in opposing relationship along a mold-closing axis and reciprocally movable relative to one another along the axis during a molding cycle. The first and second plates or mold halves 332,334 define a member-forming area therein when the mold is in a closed position. Sprues in the first and second plates or mold halves are in communication with the portions of the first and second sections respectively of the member-forming area. An ejector 348 for ejecting an eventually mold member includes one surface defining a boundary of the member-forming area. The ejector is movably disposed in one of the plates and is movable into the member-forming area. The ejector 348 is positionable in a first position such that the first material is introduceable through the at least one first sprue 356 while another surface of the ejector blocks the at least one second sprue. The ejector 348 is then positioned in a second position within the member-forming area such that the second sprue is uncovered. The second material is introduced into the second portion 212 of the member-forming area through the at least one second sprue.

Dual injection molding apparatus

An environmentally sealed electrical connector is comprised of plug and receptacle housing members, each member having a rigid portion and a flexible portion secured to one end thereof, and at least one electrical terminal receiving passageway extending through the rigid and flexible portions. The flexible portions of the passageways are dimensioned to accommodate and sealingly engage a variety of wire sizes terminated to electrical terminals which are received and disposed in the passageways of the assembled member. The plug member may be further comprised of a second flexible section secured at the other end of the rigid section, the second flexible section providing a resilient sealing member for environmentally sealing the interface when the receptable and receptacle members are mated.

Environmentally sealed connector

A solder clip (52) is formed independent of the molding of a connector housing (26) and inserted into recessed channels (50) in the mounting face (36) of the housing (26). The solder clip (52) is inserted until a stop (62) is reached thereby positioning the solder clip (52) relative to the housing (26). The leading corners (56) of the solder clip (52) are rounded to facilitate insertion of the solder clip (52) in the recessed channels (50). A portion of the base (54) of the solder clip (52) is offset (64) from the plane of the remainder of the base (54) to provide an interference fit with the channels (50) to maintain the position of the solder clip (52) in the channels (50). The solder clip (52) may have a solder tail (58) or a raised rib (66) for soldering to a printed circuit board (48). The solder clip (52 ) provides mechanical retention of the housing (26) on a printed circuit board (48) and may also serve as a ground.

Solderable connector retention feature

A multi plane connector system is formed by a header assembly mounted on at least one side of a circuit board and a connector commoning terminals of header assemblies on adjacent circuit boards. The terminals of the header assemblies can either be through-the-board mounted or surface mounted in either a soldered or spring loaded condition. The connector preferably includes latching means and can be back plane or ground plane mounted.

Multi-plane interconnection system

Shroud assembly for mounting to a panel opening includes a ground plane spring manufactured in continuous strip form. Individual spring strips are severed from the continuous strip and sandwiched between sidewalls of the shroud and a rim member. First spring fingers extend into the cavity which receives the connector and second spring fingers extend through apertures in the rim member to bear against the panel. Pegs on the sidewalls cooperate with holes in the strips and the rim member.

Receptacle assembly with ground plane spring

A shielded backplane assembly is formed by a plurality of pairs of first and second shrouds, each pair enclosing an array of pin terminals from opposite sides of the backplane. A profiled ground plane, which engages a chassis cover, profiles entry to the second shroud to make wiping contact with a shielded connector received therein. The assembly also includes covers for enclosing the unused portions of each pin array.

Shielded backplane assembly

An intercard latching extraction means is formed by a pair of members pivotally mounted at opposite ends of a dorsal rib on a connector. The members engage a rib of a header and, according to the direction of movement, act as a cam and lever to drive the connector with respect to the header.

Intercard-extraction means

An intercard connector system is formed by a connector matable with a circuit board mounted header assembly. The connector carries a plurality of terminals each having a first end profiled to engage a conductor and an opposite second end profiled to engage a pin terminal of the header assembly. The profiling of the connector and header assemblies are such as to allow multiple configurations in high density arrays.

Input/output intercard connector

A bussing system for interconnecting circuits on pairs of adjacent parallel spaced circuit boards is formed by a bussing connector for each pair of circuit boards and a connector assembly on each circuit board. Each connector assembly has a header mounted on a first side of the circuit board, a shroud mounted on the opposite side of the circuit board, and a plurality of terminals mounted extending through the header, shroud and circuit board and making electrical contact with the latter. Each bussing connector includes a plurality of terminals mounted therein, each capable of engaging a pin terminal extending from a header of a first circuit board and a pin terminal extending from a shroud of a second circuit board.

Bussing connector system

A bussing system for interconnecting pairs of circuit boards in a closely spaced array of parallel spaced circuit boards is formed by a bussing connector for each pair of circuit boards and a pair of blade headers on each circuit board. The first header is mounted on a first side of a respective circuit board and the second header is mounted aligned on the opposite side of the circuit board. Each header is provided with a plurality of terminals having one end in electrical contact with the circuitry of the circuit board and an opposite end projecting from the respective header. The bussing connector has a housing containing a plurality of terminals each arranged to engage a terminal extending from a first header of a first circuit board and a terminal extending from a second header of an adjacent second circuit board.

Bussing system for stacked array of panel boards

An electrical connector is disclosed for terminating coaxial cable and mating with a multi-pin array, having at least one signal pin and the rest ground pins and being mounted in a circuit board or the like. The connector has a housing carrying at least one terminal mounted to receive the signal wire of the cable and engage a respective signal pin of the array, and a pair of mating metal shells enclosing the housing, engaging the shielding of the cable, and, upon mating of the connector with the array, contacting the respective ground pins while allowing clear entry of the signal pin to engage the signal terminal.

Shielded cable on coaxial connector

A connector assembly is disclosed for effecting zero insertion force mating of projecting blade portions of terminals carried by a plug member with conductive holes in a circuit board or the like and enclosed in a header. The plug member has a housing, a plurality of terminals carried in the housing each with a blade portion projecting from a mating face and a conductor engaging portion, and hermaphroditic cover members enclosing a portion of the housing. The housing also has a cam surface and polarizing lugs. The header has means to mount it on a circuit board or the like with walls of the header forming a shroud around an array of conductive holes in the circuit board. A cam member is rotatably mounted in one end of the header to act on the plug member driving it transversely to bring the blades of the terminals into contact with the walls of the respective conductive holes.

Cam actuated zero insertion connector assembly

A connector assembly is disclosed having both the capability of being mass terminated and for effecting zero insertion force mating with conductive holes of a printed circuit board or the like. The subject connector system includes a pair of identical housing members, each of which receives a plurality of terminals therein, and a pair of hermaphroditic cover members. Each housing member is an elongated member of insulative material having a mating face and a plurality of terminal receiving passages opening onto the mating face. The terminals each have a first end lying within the housing and capable of effecting mass termination of individual conductors by insulation displacing means and a second end extending from the mating face of the housing in resilient cantilever beam fashion. Each of the hermaphroditic cover members encloses a respective one of the housing members to form a complete subassembly. Each subassembly is mated to a circuit board in a tilted condition with the resilient beams of the terminals extending into the conductive holes of the circuit board. The subassemblies are then rotated relative to each other to latch the cover members together while bringing the beams into contact with the side walls of the conductive holes thereby effecting contact therewith while securing the connector assembly in the printed circuit board.

A power distribution block is disclosed for supplying bussed power to a circuit board. The block uses, in combination, a known connector having therein a plurality of terminals each having one mating end and an oppositely directed conductor engaging portion. A plurality of bus bars, each having at least one tine extending from each of two ends, are each electrically and mechanically joined to at least one connector and to a circuit board. The assembly of connector and bus bars is enclosed in a housing shell serving to both separate rows of bus bars and support the connector on the circuit board.

Narrow profile power distribution block

An RF, EMI shielding assembly is disclosed having the capability of capacitively coupling the shielding to system ground so that there will be no ground currents flowing and shocks and arcing will be substantially eliminated. The assembly has a pair of metal shells enclosing a standard connector terminating a shielded cable and a capacitor assembly forming a capacitor with the shells. The capacitor assembly includes springs which make engagement with an equipment closure to effect the capacitive coupling assuring like ground potential throughout the thus connected system.
