A rotor-type apparatus for centrifugal cleaning of crankcase gases from a combustion engine. The rotor is hydraulically driven by pressurized oil by means of a turbine wheel located in an oil collection chamber. A pressure equalizing and gas discharging conduit, which extends into the collection chamber and has an upper aperture located above a liquid level of the oil in the collection chamber during the operation, is connected to an outlet conduit for the propellant oil from the collection chamber.

The invention relates to devices and methods for cleaning centrifugal separators for concurrent and countercurrent separation of solid and/or liquid particles suspended in gaseous media. The device comprises a rotor () which is provided with a multiplicity of sedimentation members () and which is mounted rotatably in a surrounding housing (). In concurrent separation, a flushing nozzle () is arranged upstream of the sedimentation members () in order to supply a cleaning liquid for flushing the sedimentation members clean. A centrifugal separator device () for separating solid and/or liquid particles which are suspended in gas media, which device comprises a rotor () which is provided sedimentation members (), which is rotatably mounted in a surrounding stationary housing () and which has a central inlet for the gas medium which is to be cleaned. The housing () has, on the one hand, an outlet () for cleaned gas which, during its passage through the sedimentation members () in the rotor (), has been freed form solid and/or liquid particles, and, on the other hand, an outlet (-) for solid and/or liquid particles which have been transferred onto the inner side of the housing. A number of parallel guide rails (), which run helically, are arranged on the inner side of the housing and extends axially at least over a major part of the length of the rotor (), and the outlet () in the housing for cleaning gas is located, with respect to the axis, at one end of the rotor () while the outlet (-for the particles which have been collected on the housing wall is located at the opposite axial end of the rotor. The guide rails () are arranged in a direction on the inner side of the housing in relation to the direction of rotation of the rotor which is such that a peripherally outer of a gas vortex generated by the rotor is forced to entrain the particles which have been collected between the guide rails toward the particles outlet.

Centrifugal separator for cleaning gases

A centrifugal separator has a centrifugal rotor that is rotatable about a vertical axis and has both a rotor body for separation of two liquids, having different densities, and a pumping member that is designed to pump via the outside of a conical body a mixture of said two liquids into the rotor body from a surface layer of a liquid body situated below the rotor body.

In a centrifugal separator, the rotor of which is adapted to be driven by means of a gaseous driving fluid, the rotor itself supports a ring of turbine blades extending around the rotational axis of the rotor. A stationary nozzle is adapted to direct a flow of the driving fluid towards the ring of turbine members. After the driving fluid has passed between the turbine blades and has influenced them for driving of the centrifugal rotor, it enters a reversing chamber formed by a stationary reversing member. In the reversing chamber the driving fluid is caused to change its direction and is then conducted again towards the ring of turbine members in order to be utilized a second time for driving of the centrifugal rotor.

In connection with cleaning of gas from particles suspended therein and being heavier than the gas the gas is caused to rotate in a chamber delimited in a stationary housing, so that the particles by centrifugal force are separated from the gas and are thrown towards a stationary housing. The rotation of the gas is accomplished by means of a rotor, which includes a stack of conical separation discs arranged coaxially with each other and concentrically with the rotational axis of the rotor. The gas to be cleaned is caused to flow through interspaces between the separation discs, while they are rotating, the particles by the centrifugal force being brought into contact with the insides of the separation discs. In contact with the insides of the separation discs the particles first move along the generatrices of the separation discs and then move along inclined guiding members, which are arranged in contact with said insides. The guiding members collect particles moving across different sectors of the separation discs and conduct them to separate areas distributed around the surrounding edges of the separation discs. From these areas the particles in an agglomerated or coalesced form are thrown away from the separation discs towards the stationary housing.

Method and an apparatus for cleaning of gas

Gases produced by a combustion engine, e.g. crankcase gases, are conducted through a separation chamber formed and surrounded by a centrifugal rotor, by means of which the gases are caused to rotate, so that particles suspended in the gases are separated by means of centrifugal force. The centrifugal rotor is caused to rotate by means of a pressure fluid that is generated by means of the combustion engine.
