A grooving insert includes a front surface and an opposite rear surface, a first side surface and an opposite second side surface, and a top surface and an opposite bottom surface. The top surface includes a top front portion and a top rear portion, the top front portion having a cutting edge arranged symmetrically relative to a first plane. The bottom surface is symmetrically arranged in relation to a second plane, the first plane and the second plane forming an angle (&#x3b1;) of 0.5-5.0&#xb0; relative to each other.

Metal cutting grooving insert for face grooving

A parting tool for the chip removing machining of metal blanks includes a blade and a replaceable cutting insert mounted in a seat, which is delimited between a bottom support and an elastically resilient clamping finger. The cutting insert includes an upper side, in which there is included a front rake surface, as well as an application surface positioned behind the same and against which the clamping finger is pressed. In the clamping finger, a flushing channel is included to spray a cooling medium toward the rake surface. A front nose of the clamping finger facing a shoulder is formed between the rake surface and the application surface and has the purpose of protecting the nose from chips. The shoulder has two knobs mutually separated by a central notch, via which cooling medium can pass from the flushing channel toward the rake surface.

Tool for chip removing machining as well as an insert-holding blade and a replaceable cutting insert therefor

A turning tool including a basic body having an insert seat, an indexable turning insert having a triangular basic shape, and a tightening element fixing the turning insert in the insert seat. The insert includes an upperside and an underside between which three side surfaces extend that are situated in a first imaginary, equilateral triangle and therefore converge in pairs at an angle of 60&#xb0; toward corners in which cutting edges are included. The turning insert is engaged with the insert seat via an interface that includes elongate and straight, female-like and male-like engagement members, which are in engagement with each other in order to prevent turning of the turning insert. The insert seat includes a supporting surface having a corner section against which an active corner of the turning insert is applied. The insert seat includes a single active engagement member, which is spaced-apart from the supporting corner section, and is in engagement with one of three engagement members included in the turning insert and located in a second imaginary triangle having an equilateral shape, which is smaller than the first imaginary triangle and rotated in relation to the first imaginary triangle.

Turning tool and a turning insert

A tool for chip removing machining, including a basic body, and a cutting insert fixed in an insert seat in the basic body by a tightening element, and which, via at least one shoulder surface, is held pressed against a stop surface in the insert seat. An elastically deformable spring is arranged in the insert seat, which provides, by elastic deformation as a result of tightening of the tightening element, the pressing of the shoulder surface against the stop surface.

Tool for chip removing machining and a basic body therefor

A turning tool including a basic body having a pocket, a shim plate mounted in the pocket, and an indexable turning insert mounted in the pocket. The pocket opens in a front surface and in a side surface of the basic body, and accommodates two spaces spaced-apart level-wise, a lower space housing the shim plate and delimited by a bottom surface and two side support surfaces, which form an acute angle with each other, one of which is a primary side support surface and the other one a secondary side support surface, and an upper space housing the turning insert. The shim plate includes an upperside and an underside between which a pair of primary and secondary contact surfaces extend, which form an acute angle with each other and are urged against the primary and secondary side support surfaces in the pocket, as well as a pair of inactive surfaces extend in the form of an outer end surface and an outer side limiting surface, which together delimit a supporting corner section of the shim plate. The turning insert has a triangular basic shape and includes an upperside, an underside resting against the upperside of the shim plate, and three side surfaces that are situated in a first imaginary, equilateral triangle and therefore converge in pairs at an angle of 60&#xb0; toward corners in which cutting edges are included. First and second tightening elements are arranged to detachably fix the shim plate and the turning insert individually. The secondary side support surface of the pocket is formed on a lug having a top surface situated under the turning insert. Respective acute angles (&#x3b5;, &#x3b3;) between the primary and secondary side support surfaces of the pocket, and the primary and secondary contact surfaces of the shim plate, are smaller than 60&#xb0;. The underside of the turning insert and the upperside of the shim plate are engaged with each other via an interface that includes female-like and male-like engagement members, which are in engagement with each other to prevent turning of the turning insert.

Turning tool, and a basic body and a shim plate for a turning tool

A tool for chip removing machining, including a basic body and a cutting insert detachably connected to the basic body via an interface. The interface includes a first connecting surface formed in the basic body in which a chute is formed that has two side-flank surfaces diverging from a bottom. The interface also includes a second connecting surface formed in the cutting insert in which there are formed a number of male members having converging side-flank surfaces that abut against the side-flank surfaces of the chute, and at least one transverse shoulder surface that abuts against a transverse stop surface in the connecting surface of the basic body. When at least one first male member in the connecting surface of the cutting insert is in engagement with the chute and has flank contact with the side-flank surfaces of the chute, a lower bearing surface of a second male member laterally spaced-apart from the first male member abuts against a support surface located in the connecting surface of the basic body and spaced-apart from the chute.

The invention relates to a cutting tool including a basic body and a cutting insert detachably connected to the basic body via an interface, which includes a pair of co-operating connecting surfaces in which engagement means are included, which may be in the form of knobs and seatings. A knob and a co-operating seating have a rotationally symmetrical, conical shape to prevent translation of the cutting insert in the plane of the interface. Another knob ensures that the cutting insert cannot be rotated in relation to the conical knob. Simultaneously, ample bearing surfaces abut against co-operating support surfaces in a connecting surface. In such a way, the cutting insert is fixed in a stable, non-overdetermined position in the basic body. Furthermore, the invention relates to a cutting insert as such.

A cutting insert having a front cutting edge and a connecting surface including male- and/or female-like engagement portions, in order to rigidly secure the cutting insert, a geometrically predetermined reference locus serving as a force-application spot for the clamping of the cutting insert. Simultaneously active engagement portions are of only two types&#x2014;a first, elongate engagement portion, which is located between the front cutting edge and the reference locus, and a second, elongate engagement means, which is oriented at an angle to the first engagement portion and situated at a greater distance from the front cutting edge than the reference locus. In such a way, it is guaranteed that a tightening force always is applied to the cutting insert in a substantially triangular area, which is defined by the free ends of the engagement portions. Furthermore, a tool for chip removing machining, as well as an attachment, e.g., a shim plate, for such tools is provided.

A double ended metal-cutting insert includes a pair of circular cutting edges disposed at respective end surfaces of the insert. Each end surface includes an upper portion connected to the cutting edge, and a lower portion connected to the upper portion by a concave transition portion. The lower portion is recessed relative to the upper portion in a direction toward the opposite cutting edge. The lower portion is a flat face oriented perpendicular to the bottom surface.

Cutting insert for grooving operations

A parting tool includes a thin holder forming a groove open at one end, and a double-ended cutting insert mounted in the groove. The insert includes front and rear cutting edges and a rear end surface abutting against a rear support surface of the groove. The rear support surface is configured to enable differently shaped double-ended inserts to be mounted therein without the occurrence of contact between the rear cutting edge and a surface of the holder.

Cutting tool for parting and similar operations

A cutting insert for grooving and parting as well as profiling and longitudinal turning of metallic work-pieces, includes a shaft part and at least one cutting head. There is a front end surface at the front end of the cutting insert, and a rear end surface at the rear end of the cutting insert. The shaft part includes a top side, a bottom side and side surfaces extending between the tope and bottom two sides. The cutting head carries a cutting edge defined by the intersection between a chip surface and a clearance surface. The cutting edge has a circular shape and has mainly a constant curvature between the ends thereof. The chip side of the cutting head is provided with a first chip-forming device placed immediately inside the cutting edge.

A tool for chip removing machining includes a holder and a cutting insert removably mounted therein. The insert includes a shaft having opposite ends and defining a first longitudinal center line. A cutting head projects integrally from at least one end of the shaft. The cutting head includes a cutting edge forming an angle of 45&deg; with the first longitudinal center line. Alternatively, or additionally, the cutting head defines a second longitudinal center line forming an angle of 45&deg; with the first longitudinal center line.
