A glazing provided with an electric circuit includes an electrically conducting substrate and a terminal for making electrical connection thereto. The terminal is attached to the glazing by an adhesive, rather than solely by solder, and the electrical connection between the terminal and the substrate is provided by means other than, or additional to, physical contact between the terminal and the substrate. For instance, the adhesive may be electrically conducting, or a soldered joint may additionally be provided if the adhesive is electrically insulating, or of insufficient conductivity for the type of circuit in question. The adhesive may be pre-applied to the terminal, and may be a tack-free adhesive activated or cured by heat. The terminal may be in two parts, with the base part of a standardized design. The glazing is suitable for use in buildings, appliances or vehicles, especially automotive vehicles.

Glazing with electrical terminal

An appendage () is molded onto a glazing profile () provided around the periphery of a pane of glass (), the process comprising advancing a mold () into sealing contact with an appropriate part of the profile, introducing a predetermined quantity of polymer material () into a mold cavity (), and allowing the polymer material to bond to the glazing profile. The pane of glass remains outside the mold cavity, and is preferably not contacted by the mold. The polymer material may be thermosetting or thermoplastic, and is preferably introduced into the mold cavity while the mold is open. The material may be poured if it is in a fluid condition, or, if it is thermoplastic, it may be introduced in the form of a preformed piece () which is superficially melted to bond it to the glazing profile. The process is suitable for molding sharp corners onto extruded profiles on vehicle glazings ().

Process for manufacturing a glazing

Apparatus for extruding a profile on a glazing comprises drive means on which is mounted an extrusion head with an extrusion nozzle, and means for rotating the nozzle relative to the drive means. The apparatus may be used in a process which comprises extruding the profile through the nozzle while it is being moved by the drive means along a first edge of a glazing, around a corner of the glazing and along a second edge of the glazing, the nozzle being rotated relative to the drive means as it moves around the corner. The extruded profile comprises a first edge portion extending along a first edge of the glazing, a sharp corner portion extending around a sharp corner of the glazing and a second edge portion extending along a second edge region of the glazing, the portions of the profile being continuous.

Apparatus for extruding a profile on a glazing

A mold is described for molding an elastomeric glazing profile in situ on a single major face of a sheet of glazing material, e.g. a glass sheet. The mold comprises a first mold segment and at least one further mold segment which are relatively movable into intimate contact, so that they define, together with the sheet, a mold cavity for molding the profile on the single major face. The profile has a show face, (i.e. one which is visible in use), and the portion of the mold cavity that molds the show face is entirely formed by a single mold segment to avoid mold lines on the show face. Also described are a corresponding molding method and the glazing product thereby obtained, which may be used as a vehicle window.

Method for molding a glazing profile on a sheet of glazing material

A glazing is provided comprising a glass sheet with a rigid member bonded to it by adhesive which is provided on at least two discrete areas of the member or glass sheet. The adhesive may be a structural adhesive, pre-applied in tablet form, and activated by heat. The use of multiple discrete areas of adhesive allows differential thermal expansion to be accommodated. The glazing may be for a vehicle window, and the rigid member may be a plate, especially a mounting plate for ancillary equipment.

Decorated sheets of laminated safety glass, particularly for use in the field of building construction and vehicles for transportation, are manufactured using a process which makes it possible to obtain a product which can be defined as laminated safety glass. The process consists in reproducing the decoration on a support formed by paper and polyethylene layers and transferring said decoration onto the interposed plastic film, using the adhesive bond differential between decoration and polyethylene and decoration and plastic film.

An apparatus used directly on a flat sheet of transparent material, especially tempered glass, for simultaneous measurement of sign and amplitude of stress across the section of said glass sheet using scattered light. The apparatus allows reliable and repetitive measurements independently of the operator's subjective observations, since the data is read through an automatic system. The apparatus has a Helium-Neon (He-Ne) laser source of 1 to 5 mW, whose light beam is linearly polarized, then modulated with a series of wave plates (2,2', 2'), then passed through a collimator (3) and subsequently made to strike a prism (4) optically coupled with the glass sheet (V) being tested. Bending and tempering of a glass sheet is achieved in that the glass sheet is submitted to the tempering phase while still being placed, as in the forming phase, on a forming ring integral with a frame which holds the latter, in order to maintain the previously formed shape unaltered. Vertical upward and downward movement is achieved both in the forming zone and in the glass sheet discharge zone by means of a rotating coupling device which supports the frame with forming ring and the glass sheet placed thereupon. Means are provided for conveying the frame with integral forming ring in the horizontal direction from the forming zone to the subsequent tempering and discharge zones, and other overlying similar means are provided to return the frame and forming ring from the discharge zone to the forming zone.
