A medical system including a body; a first electrode; a second electrode; an electric generator; and a processing device suitable for determining an electrical characteristic that represents the capacity of the tissue of an anatomical structure between first and second contact surfaces of the first and second electrodes to conduct the electric current, and for emitting a warning signal corresponding to the determined electrical characteristic, the warning signal being intermittent. The processing device is suitable for detecting a variation in the electrical characteristic and for varying at least one variable parameter of the warning signal after a time delay, in accordance with the variation in the electrical characteristic, has elapsed.

Medical system

An eye sensor, system and method for measuring fixational eye movements of an individual's eyeball (e.g., ocular microtremors and microsaccades) to provide a variable voltage biosignal for measuring the individual's brainstem activity is provided. The eye sensor comprises a sensor mounted on the individual's closed or opened eyelid so as to be deflected by the fixational eye movements of the eyeball. A shielded flexible ribbon assembly supplies the biosignal generated by the sensor to an amplifier located on the individual's skin where the biosignal is amplified. The amplifier is interconnected with a signal processor and a display by which graphical and numerical representations of the biosignal are made accessible to an anesthesiologist, intensivist or clinician. A method for analyzing the biosignal to determine the brainstem activity of a patient is also provided.

Ocular micro tremor (OMT) sensor, system and method

An ocular micro tremor (OMT) sensor, system and method for measuring micromovements of an individual's eyeball having an amplitude of 40 micrometers or less to provide a variable voltage biosignal for measuring the individual's brain stem activity. The OMT sensor includes a flexible piezo-active sensing element mounted at the individual's closed or opened eyelid so as to be deflected by the micromovements of the eyeball. A shielded flexible ribbon assembly supplies the biosignal generated by the piezo-active sensing element to an OMT amplifier located on the individual's skin where the biosignal is amplified. The OMT amplifier is interconnected with a signal processor and a display by which graphical and numerical representations of the biosignal are made accessible to an anesthesiologist, intensivist or clinician.

An apparatus consistent with the present invention comprises a sensor for receiving a signal representing eye tremor and a processor for monitoring eye tremor while receiving the signal. A method consistent with the present invention includes receiving a signal representing eye tremor, comparing the received signal representing eye tremor to at least one reference value, and classifying a patient's brain stem function using the comparison of the received signal representing eye tremor to at least one reference value. An embodiment consistent with the present invention includes an ocular micro tremor (OMT) sensor and associated signal processing hardware and software for clinical analyses.

Method and apparatus for monitoring eye tremor

The present invention relates to a vertebral osteosynthesis plate to maintain relative vertebral orientation correction using a correction instrument. The osteosynthesis plate has an overall rectangular shape and comprises at least four slots to insert, in each, fixation devices, wherein at least two of the slots opens onto a lateral edge of the osteosynthesis plate to enable positioning and fixation of the plate with no prior removal of the relative vertebral orientation correction instrument. The edge of the plate is defined by an edge located in the same direction as the longitudinal direction of the plate. Interbody spinal stabilization cage and spinal stabilization method

A vertebral distractor is disclosed for use in performing anterior cervical spinal surgery. The vertebral distractor is associated with a computer controlled surgical navigation system employing an energy-detecting array to track positions of the vertebral distractor in three dimensional space relative to a known reference point. The guide comprises a shaft, a stationary first arm, and at least one movable second arm. At least one electrically energizable energy emitter array is attached to the shaft for use in identifying the location of the vertebral distractor relative to the vertebrae. A system for using the vertebral distractor in spinal surgery is disclosed.
