A first network device including a receiver and a transmitter. The receiver receives a first frame from a second network device. The first frame includes an indicator indicating whether the second network device is capable of providing one or more application services. The second network device is capable of determining whether the one or more application services are located on the second network device, and if not, the second network device is capable of locating the one or more application services on a third network device. The transmitter, in response to the indicator indicating that the second network device is capable of providing the one or more application services, transmits to the second network device a second frame including a request for the one or more application services. In response to transmitting the second frame, the receiver receives the one or more application services from the second network device.

System and method for providing one or more application services

A portable access point includes a first transceiver, a second transceiver, and a routing module. The first transceiver is configured to access an Internet via a mobile phone. The first transceiver is separate from the mobile phone. The first transceiver receives signals transmitted from the mobile phone to the portable access point. The signals contain content received from the Internet. The routing module is configured to route the content from the first transceiver to the second transceiver. The second transceiver is configured to (i) respectively establish wireless links between the portable access point and network devices, (ii) select a first network device of the network devices, and (ii) forward the content from the portable access point to the first network device on the wireless link respectively established between the portable access point and the first network device.

Method for providing internet access to network devices via a mobile phone

A wireless client device includes a receiver, controller, and transmitter. The receiver is configured to wirelessly receive a beacon from a wireless access point. The beacon includes an information element indicating whether the wireless access point is capable of providing a wireless application service. The controller is configured to, in response to the information element indicating that the wireless access point is capable of providing a wireless application service, generate a wireless application service request. The wireless application service request identifies a requested wireless application service, and identifies a source of an application to be obtained, installed, and executed by the wireless access point. Execution of the application enables the wireless access point to provide the requested wireless application service to the wireless client device. The transmitter is configured to wirelessly transmit a packet to the wireless access point. The packet includes the wireless application service request.

Server for wireless application service system

A wireless network device includes a wireless network port, first and second virtual machines, and a processor. While executing the first virtual machine, the processor stores, in a third queue, data to be processed by the first virtual machine and the first virtual machine maintains, in a first queue, a copy of the data stored in the third queue. While executing the second virtual machine, the processor stores, in the third queue, data to be processed by the second virtual machine and the second virtual machine maintains, in a second queue, a copy of the data stored in the third queue. Upon resuming execution, the first virtual machine transfers, to the third queue, the copy of the data maintained in the first queue. Upon resuming execution, the second virtual machine transfers, to the third queue, the copy of the data maintained in the second queue.

Method and apparatus for concurrently maintaining queues for multiple virtual machines

A system-on-chip including a host interface module configured to interface the system-on-chip to a host processor of a wireless device and to communicate with the host processor of the wireless device via a bus. The bus uses an application programming interface of the system-on-chip. The host processor uses the application programming interface to configure a power save mode of the system-on-chip. A power management module operated the system-on-chip in the power save mode without performing a handshake with the host processor via the bus in response to the host processor stopping communication with the system-on-chip. The handshake includes (i) sending a request to enter the power save mode to the host processor via the bus and (ii) receiving an acknowledgement of the request from the host processor via the bus.

Power save modes for a system-on-chip and a host processor of a wireless device

An active network system for a host device with a host processor, comprises a wireless port including a first physical layer/medium access control (PHY/MAC) device. A first wired port includes a second PHY/MAC device. A secondary processor communicates with the wireless port, the first wired port and the host processor. The secondary processor, the wireless port and the first wired port support network functionality when the host processor is an inactive mode. The network functionality includes at least one of access point functionality, router functionality, repeater functionality, point-to-point functionality and point-to-multipoint functionality.

Active network system for wireless computer networks

A system including a host interface module and a power management module. The host interface module is configured to receive configuration information from a host processor of a wireless device, in which the configuration information indicates that the host processor is to (i) operate in a power save mode, and (ii) in response to the wireless device receiving data of a predetermined category from a wireless network, transition from the power save mode to an active mode. The power management module is configured to generate a first signal in response to the wireless device receiving data of the predetermined category from the wireless network, wherein in response to the first signal being generated by the power management module, the host processor is configured to transition from the power save mode to the active mode in which the host processor processes the data of the predetermined category.

Wake on wireless LAN schemes

A system to wirelessly communicate with a wireless network. The system includes a memory and a processor. The memory is configured to store a first queue, a second queue, and a processor queue. The processor is configured to: selectively execute a first virtual machine using the processor queue; while executing the first virtual machine, maintain the first queue as a copy of data in the processor queue; selectively execute a second virtual machine using the processor queue; and while executing the second virtual machine, maintain the second queue as a copy of data in the processor queue.

All-in-one wireless network device

A wireless access point includes a transmitter, a receiver, and a processor. The processor is configured to wirelessly transmit a beacon to a wireless client. The beacon includes a first information element. The first information element indicates that the wireless access point is capable of providing a plurality of wireless application services. The receiver is configured to wirelessly receive, from the wireless client, a request for a first wireless application service of the plurality of wireless application services as indicated in the beacon. The processor is configured to selectively provide the first wireless application service to the wireless client by executing an application corresponding to the first wireless application service. The processor is configured to, prior to executing the application, determine whether the application is installed in the wireless access point, and in response to the application not being installed, obtain the application from an application server for installation.

An apparatus including a wireless local area network transceiver, a wireless wide area network transceiver, and a portable power source. The wireless local area network transceiver is configured to wirelessly communicate with a client station using a wireless local area network protocol. The wireless wide area network transceiver is configured to wirelessly communicate with a base station. The portable power source has a state of charge and is configured to provide power to the wireless local area network transceiver and the wireless wide area network transceiver. The wireless wide area network transceiver is configured to suspend wireless communication with the base station in response to no packets of data having been received at the wireless wide area network transceiver from the base station for more than a predetermined period of time. The predetermined period of time is adjusted based on the state of charge of the portable power source.

Wearable access point

Apparatus having corresponding methods and computer-readable media comprises a first network interface comprising a transmitter to wirelessly transmit a beacon comprising an indication of the capability of the apparatus to provide wireless application services; a receiver to wirelessly receive a wireless application service request from a wireless client, the wireless application service request comprising a request for one of the wireless application services, and an identifier of a service access point for the requested wireless application service; a second network interface to obtain an application for the requested wireless application service from the service access point in response to the wireless application service request; and a processor to execute the application, wherein the application provides the requested wireless application service to the wireless client.

A portable access point including a power source having a state of charge, a wireless local area network transceiver configured to communicate with a wireless client device, and a wireless wide area network transceiver configured to i) access the Internet, and ii) provide the wireless client device access to the Internet, a control module configured to activate a sleep mode of the wireless wide area network transceiver in response to packets of data being not being received at the wireless wide area network transceiver for a predetermined period, wherein the predetermined period is based on the state of charge of the power source. The wireless wide area network transceiver is configured to, in response to activation of the sleep mode, halt wireless transmissions of packets of data to the Internet.

A system includes a radio frequency transceiver. A baseband processor includes an automatic gain control module. The automatic gain control module has a gain that changes from and subsequently returns to a predetermined value each time the radio frequency transceiver receives a radio frequency signal. The baseband processor is configured to selectively generate an interrupt signal each time a radio frequency signal is received based on a magnitude of the change in the gain of the automatic gain control module and a length of time in which the gain returns to the predetermined value. A control module is configured to identify a radio frequency signal received by the radio frequency transceiver as a radar signal in response to the baseband processor having generated a plurality of interrupt signals at substantially equal time intervals.

Radar detection algorithm

A portable access point comprises a wireless LAN transceiver that selectively establishes a plurality of Ethernet wireless links with a plurality of wireless client devices, respectively. A wireless WAN transceiver establishes an Ethernet data connection with an Internet Service Provider (ISP), receives and forwards Ethernet data packets from at least one of said wireless client devices to said ISP and receives and forwards Ethernet data packets from said ISP to said one of said wireless client devices. A routing device routes Ethernet data packets between said wireless LAN transceiver and said wireless WAN transceiver. A control module controls operation of said wireless LAN transceiver and said wireless WAN transceiver. A first storage device stores operating system and application instructions for said control module.

A method, apparatus, and computer-readable media for a wireless network device for communicating with a network comprises a memory to store an image comprising a plurality of virtual machines and only one multi-tasking operating system, wherein each of the virtual machines comprises a wireless network application to execute on the multi-tasking operating system; a processor to execute the virtual machines; and a port comprising a physical-layer device to communicate with the network, and a media access controller to communicate with the physical-layer device and the processor.
