The present disclosure is directed to a method of making a textured coating on a wear surface of a component. The method includes applying a mask on the surface and depositing a tribological coating on the surface. The method further includes removing the mask.

The invention consists of a metal carbon material coating or a metal nitride coating to the fuel pump plunger or other fuel injection system components. The invention utilizes a coating on the fuel injector plunger that minimizes scuffing or seizure associated with the plunger and barrel.

Endpoint of a chemical mechanical polishing process is detected by monitoring acoustical emissions produced by contact between a polishing pad and a wafer. The acoustic information is resolved into a frequency spectrum utilizing techniques such as fast Fourier transformation. Characteristic changes in frequency spectra of the acoustic emissions reveal transition in polishing between different material layers. CMP endpoint indicated by a change in the acoustic frequency spectrum is validated by correlation with other sensed properties, including but not limited to time-based changes in amplitude of acoustic emissions, frictional coefficient, capacitance, and/or resistance. CMP endpoint revealed by a change in acoustic frequency spectrum can also be validated by comparison with characteristic frequency spectra obtained at endpoints or polishing transitions of prior operational runs.

A pressure control valve having a cage with an inlet and an outlet in fluid communication with an engine oil circuit is disclosed. The pressure control valve further has a spool in sliding engagement within the cage which blocks fluid communication between the inlet and the outlet when the spool is in the first position and places the inlet in fluid communication with the outlet when the spool is in the second position. A thin film coating is applied to an outer surface of the spool. The pressure control valve yet further has an actuator which controls movement of the spool slides from the first position to the second position. Roller follower assemblies generally reduce frictional losses and wear associated with operating fuel injectors using a cam. Oil helps to reduce wear, but may not remove small particles. Buildup of these small particles may prevent a roller of the roller follower assembly from rotating about an axle pin. In the present invention, a hard coating is disposed between the axle pin and the roller to reduce rolling friction and buildup of small particles.

The coating is selected from the group consisting of chromium nitrides, chromium carbonitrides, and mixtures thereof. The track bushing exhibits much superior abrasion, corrosion, erosion and galling resistance.

A track assembly for a track-type machine includes a track bushing that defines first and second end portions and first and second sealing end faces that are defined by the respective end portions. The track bushing also defines a bore that extends therethrough between the end portions thereof. A first bearing surface is defined on the bore adjacent the first end portion and a second bearing surface is defined on the bore adjacent the second end portion. An abrasion resistant coating is deposited on at least one of the first and second end surfaces and the first and second bearing surfaces. The coating is selected from the group consisting of chromium nitrides, chromium carbonitrides, and mixtures thereof.

The sensor also includes a resilient prestress plate stacked on the backing plate. The resilient plate is formed of silicone elastomer. A sensor element is stacked on the resilient plate. An iron oxide film is formed on the substrate by low temperature arc vapor deposition and the resulting iron oxide coated low alloy steel part has greater boundary lubrication than the non-oxidized low alloy steel part.
