A method of forming a low moisture block with cold flow resistance proceeds by subjecting a feed mixture containing molasses-like liquids to mixing to form a homogenous mixture; dehydrating the molasses-like mixture to less than about 2.0% moisture using heating; adding to the dehydrated molasses-like liquid mixture one or more feed ingredients in dry ingredient form, comprising 10% to 50% by weight of the resulting mixture; and adding to the dehydrated molasses-like mixture a composition comprising CaO or reactive MgO or combinations thereof, with the composition comprising 0.1% to 10% by weight of the resulting mixture. The composition is mixed in to form a homogenous mixture.

Low moisture feed block with cold flow resistance

A suspendable feed block system for animals has a feed block formed of a hardened mass of feed supplement material in block form, wherein the feed supplement material provides a source of magnesium. The feed block is molded around and encases a feed block support. The support has an elongated flexible element including a plurality of protuberances located intermittently along a length of the element. At least one end of the elongated flexible element protrudes from the feed block and is fastenable to a separate suspending component. A method of manufacturing the suspendable feed block system for animals is also provided. A mold can be used for forming the feed block with the support suspended or encased therein, and the mold can be biodegradable, edible, or both.

Suspendable feed block system for animals and method for making same

A consumption-regulated feed block for controlled consumption of animal feed, comprises a mass of controlled feed material, the consumption of which is to be controlled, in compressed block, chemical block or hybrid block form; and an intake control matrix of low moisture block material positioned in the controlled feed material and forming consumption control pockets to regulate consumption of the controlled feed material by requiring an animal to consume by licking portions of low moisture block material in order to consume controlled feed material in an adjacent consumption control pocket.

Consumption-regulated feed block

A consumption-regulated feed block for controlled consumption of animal feed, comprises a mass of controlled feed material, the consumption of which is to be controlled, in compressed block, chemical block or hybrid block form; and an intake control matrix of low moisture block material positioned in the controlled feed material and forming consumption control pockets to regulate consumption of the controlled feed material by requiring an animal to consume by licking portions of low moisture block material in order to consume controlled feed material in an adjacent consumption control pocket. Methods of making such a block are also disclosed.

Water swellable articles are treated with wax by applying a molten wax to the article, the wax having a kinematic viscosity of between about 0.1 cSt to 20 cSt at 100&#xb0; C., wherein the temperature of the article at the time of applying is about 40&#xb0; C. to 200&#xb0; C., with the proviso that the temperature is not less than 30&#xb0; C. below the melting point of the wax. Using this method of treatment, swelling of the article in water is reduced by at least 25% compared to the same article treated with molten wax wherein the article is at ambient temperature at the time the wax is applied.
