A control method of a display includes a statistics circuit, a backlight determining circuit and a backlight control circuit. The display includes a backlight module having a maximum luminance. The statistics module receives frame, and generates luminance statistical information of a plurality of blocks included in the frame. The backlight determining circuit determines a backlight intensity corresponding to each of the blocks according to the luminance statistical information of the blocks and the maximum luminance. At least one of the backlight intensities corresponding to the blocks is greater than a normal luminance, which is a backlight intensity corresponding to one of the blocks when a maximum power is evenly distributed on light emitting elements of the display. The backlight control circuit controls the luminance of the backlight module according to the backlight intensities.

Backlight control and image compensation method applied to display and associated control method

An image processing method includes receiving a two-dimensional (2D) input image; detecting an image of a block in the 2D image to generate depth information for the block; and determining a depth of a sub-block image within the block according to the depth information, accurately estimating block-based depth information according to image characteristics of the block and obtaining a depth of a given block/pixel according to the depth information to generate improved stereoscopic images.

A circuit applied to a playback device includes an image format determining circuit, a control circuit, an image processing module and a blending circuit. The image format determining circuit receives an image signal and determines whether the format of the image signal is a standard dynamic range (SDR) or a high dynamic range (HDR) to generate a determination result. An image processing method for detecting an image motion information between a first image unit and a second image unit is provided. The first image unit and second image unit respectively comprise a plurality of blocks, and each of the blocks comprises a plurality of pixels. An apparatus for processing a three-dimensional (3D) image is provided. The apparatus includes a motion estimation module and a motion interpolation module. The motion estimation module estimates a motion vector between a first object in a first-eye image and a second object in a second-eye image. The first object is the same as or similar to the second object. The motion interpolation module multiplies the motion vector by a first shift ratio to generate a first motion vector. A motion compensation de-interlacing image processing apparatus is provided. The apparatus includes a motion compensation module, a still compensation module, a motion detection module, and a de-interlacing blending module. The motion compensation module generates a motion compensation pixel according to at least one of a current field, a previous field, and a next field of a target pixel to be interpolated. The still compensation module generates a still compensation pixel according to the previous field and the next field of the target pixel. The motion detection module determines a motion index according to the previous field and the next field of the target pixel. The de-interlacing blending module generates the target pixel by weighted averaging the motion compensation pixel and the still compensation pixel according to the motion index.

A method for controlling subtitles applied to a display apparatus is provided. The method is capable of dynamically adjusting a subtitle of an original image. The original image includes a right-eye frame and a left-eye frame. The right-eye frame includes right-eye subtitle information, and the left-eye frame includes left-eye subtitle information. The method includes the steps of: determining an adjusted subtitle display mode; determining a shift distance of the right-eye subtitle information and the left-eye subtitle information; and adjusting the shift distance according to the adjusted subtitle display mode or a given 3D depth, such that an adjusted subtitle presented by the right-eye frame and the left-eye frame shows an adjusted subtitle 3D depth. A passive 3D image system includes a passive 3D image display apparatus, a scaling module and a luminance adjusting module. The 3D passive image display apparatus includes N rows of display units. After receiving an original image including N rows of original data, the scaling module merges the N rows of original data to generate a scaled image including N/2 rows of scaled data. The original image is either a left-eye image or a right-eye image. The luminance adjusting module adjusts the N/2 rows of scaled data to increase the luminance of the scaled image.

An image processing apparatus for generating an intermediate frame according to a previous frame and a next frame is provided. The apparatus includes a determining module and a selecting module. The intermediate frame includes a plurality of intermediate image blocks, each of which corresponds to a motion vector. For each intermediate image block, the determining module determines whether an interpolated image generated according to the motion vector meets a correctness requirement. An image processing method for determining a motion vector of an interpolated block in a covered/uncovered area of an interpolated picture.
