A catalyst includes a carbon black support and active metal particles. A surface of the carbon black support has a relative atomic percentage of oxygen atoms ranged from 2 atom % to 12 atom %. The active metal particles are distributed on the carbon black support. Each of the active metal particles includes rhodium metal and rhodium oxide. A carbon dioxide absorbent composition is disclosed. Based on 100 parts by weight of the carbon dioxide absorbent composition, the carbon dioxide absorbent composition includes 5 to 45 parts by weight of sodium 2-[(2-aminoethyl)amino]ethanesulfonate. Moreover, a method for capturing carbon dioxide using the carbon dioxide absorbent composition is disclosed.

Provided herein is a method for absorbing COfrom a gas mixture. The method includes using an apparatus comprised of a first RPB unit and a second RPB unit. The first RPB unit and the second RPB unit are arranged to absorb COin a first gas stream and a second gas stream, respectively. A liquid CO-absorbent is supplied sequentially passing through the first RPB unit and the second RPB unit to absorb COin the first gas stream and the second gas stream. The liquid CO-absorbent is regenerated to produce a regenerated CO-absorbent. The regenerated CO-absorbent is transported to the first RPB unit.

A method and an apparatus of extracting lipids from microalgae are provided. In the method, pressurized carbon dioxide (CO) is dissolved in a liquid alcohol to form a CO-expanded alcohol solution at a pressure of about 400-1500 psi and a temperature of about 30-65&#xb0; C. Next, the CO-expanded alcohol solution contacts microalgae to extract the lipids from the microalgae. A method and an apparatus of preparing fatty acid esters from microalgae are disclosed as well.

The present invention discloses a method of applying electric arc furnace dust in chemical looping combustion process, and particularly a method of applying electric arc furnace dust in chemical looping combustion process without releasing of zinc vapor. The present invention provides a process for preparing a photoanode of a dye-sensitized solar cell (DSSC) by pressure swing impregnation, which includes impregnating a metal oxide layer on a conductive substrate in a photosensitizing dye solution in a vessel; introducing a pressurized inert gas into the vessel to maintain a first pressure therein for a period of time, wherein the first pressure can be lower or higher than the critical pressure of the inert gas and the solution is expanded by the inert gas; further pressurizing the vessel with the inert gas and maintaining at a second pressure higher than the first pressure for a period of time, wherein the inert gas becomes sub-critical or supercritical fluid and dissolves more in the solution, creating an anti-solvent effect, so that the photosensitizing dye further deposits onto the metal oxide layer due to the anti-solvent effect.

A method for recovering supercritical extractant, such as supercritical CO , from a mixture containing the supercritical extractant and a solute is disclosed, which includes contacting the mixture with a molecular sieve membrane at a temperature and a pressure in a critical region of the extractant and near a critical point of the extractant so that a permeate rich in the extractant and a retentate having a enriched concentration of the solute in the extractant are generated. The molecular sieve membrane has a pore size significantly larger than a size of the extractant provided that the pore size is less than and close to sizes of clusters formed of the solute and the extractant at the temperature and the pressure.

A process for separating p-diethylbenzene from a diethylbenzene isomers mixture by selective adsorption of p-diethylbenzene on a silicalite adsorbent is disclosed in the present invention, wherein a compressed high pressure CO.sub.2 or propane is used as a carrier for carrying a fixed amount of the diethylbenzene isomers mixture to the silicalite adsorbent bed for the selective adsorption, a first stage effluent stream containing a rich meta-diethylbenzene (m-DEB) and/or ortho-diethylbenzene (o-DEB), but having substantially no para-diethylbenzene (p-DEB) is eluted from the adsorbent bed; when p-DEB of the mixture starts to appear in the first stage effluent stream, a much higher pressurized CO.sub.2 or propane used as a desorbent is then fed into the adsorbent bed, and a second stage effluent stream conaining a rich p-DEB, but having substantially no other DEB isomers is thereby eluted from the adsorbent bed. The diethylbenzene isomers procucts contained in the first and second effluent streams, respectively, can be easily separated from CO.sub.2 or propane simply by reducing the pressure thereof, wherein the resulting CO.sub.2 or propane can be re-compressed and recycled.
