An electronic device capable of performing automatic frequency control (AFC) to maintain frequency and timing without good received bursts, in which an oscillation unit and a baseband processing unit are provided. Wherein, the baseband processing unit computes a compensation adjustment according to a prediction model and stored information regarding a previous digital value adjustment when detecting that the baseband processing unit is incapable of controlling the oscillation unit according to received bursts from the remote communication unit, and adjusts the oscillation unit according to the determined compensation adjustment.

Radio frequency control for communication systems

A communication apparatus is provided. The communication apparatus comprises an external memory device and a communication unit. The external memory device stores software functions corresponding to a predetermined application profile of the wireless communication system. The communication unit comprises: a radio transceiver module transceiving radio frequency wireless signals and converting the radio frequency wireless signals to or from baseband signals; a baseband module converting the baseband signals to or from digital signals and processing the digital signals; an internal memory device storing a firmware programmed for controlling the radio transceiver module, the baseband module, and performing a physical layer protocol and a data link layer protocol of the wireless communication system; and a microprocessor accessing the software functions via an interface and executing the firmware and the software functions when implementing the predetermined application profile.

Communication apparatuses and methods for flexibly providing various application profiles of a wireless communication system

The invention provides a method for operating an apparatus capable of Bluetooth and Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN)/WiMAX communications. In one embodiment, the apparatus comprises a Bluetooth module, and a WLAN/WiMAX unit comprising a packet traffic arbitration (PTA) module, and a WLAN/WiMAX module. The Bluetooth module sends a request for Bluetooth signal transceiving to be performed in a Bluetooth time slot to the WLAN/WiMAX unit, wherein the request comprises a length information about length of a transceiving time period for Bluetooth signal transceiving. The Bluetooth module then performs an Bluetooth signal transceiving during the transceiving time period of the Bluetooth time slot after the WLAN/WiMAX unit grants the request. The WLAN/WiMAX unit then performs an WLAN/WiMAX signal transceiving during a residual time period of the Bluetooth time slot in response to the length information.

Apparatus and method for coordinating bluetooth and wireless local area network (WLAN) and WiMAX communications

An embodiment of a communication system is provided, in which a high frequency oscillator generates a first high frequency signal upon receipt of no disable signal. The first high frequency signal is commonly shared by at least two modules. Each module coupled to the high frequency oscillator operates in either busy or idle mode, wherein the module operates at the first high frequency signal when in busy mode, and asserts a request signal when in idle mode. A disablement unit, coupled to the first and second modules, asserts the disable signal to the high frequency oscillator when all of the request signals are asserted, thereby forcing the high frequency oscillator to cease the generation of the first high frequency signal.

Communication system and oscillation signal provision method

An embodiment of an apparatus for channel assessment is provided, comprising a radio frequency (RF) unit, a baseband unit and a microprocessor control unit (MCU). The baseband unit coupling to the RF unit directs the RF unit to selectively hop into one of a plurality of available channels in a frequency band using a pseudorandom sequence to receive a plurality of packets via the hopped channel. The MCU coupling to the baseband unit accumulates a measure for the hopped channel according to reception results of the packets and marks the hopped channel as a bad channel when the accumulated measure exceeds a predetermined threshold. The measure represents the inaccuracy extent during packet reception via the hopped channel.

Methods and apparatuses for channel assessment

A communication system and an oscillation signal provision method based thereon are provided. In the communication system, a high frequency oscillator generates a first high frequency signal upon receipt of an enable signal. The first high frequency signal is commonly shared by a first module and a second module. The first module is coupled to the high frequency oscillator, operating in either busy or idle mode, wherein the first module operates at the first high frequency signal when in busy mode. The second module converts the first high frequency signal to a second high frequency signal and operates at the second high frequency signal when in busy mode.
