Provided are bitstream encoding/decoding methods and devices. The decoder includes: a condition information extracting unit creating recognition information using syntax tree information indicating a hierarchical structure between syntax elements corresponding to bits of an input bitstream, respectively and rule description information indicating connectivity between the syntax elements; and a decoding unit decoding data contained in the bitstream into moving image data using the recognition information. Accordingly, it is possible to decode bitstreams encoded in a variety of types (syntax, semantics) corresponding to a variety of standards (for example, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, and MPEG-4 AVC) by the use of the same information recognition method.

A method of setting an order of reference frames for multi-view coding performed by one or more processors. The method includes selecting one or more frames of the same kind that have a same-view relation with said current frame and have an inter-view relation with a frame of the same kind, which is encoded or decoded immediately before; and encoding or decoding the current frame by making reference to the selected one or more kind. An adaptive decoding apparatus and a method of adaptive decoding are disclosed. The adaptive decoding apparatus configuring a decoding process adaptively based on an encoding format of inputted data includes: a separating part configured to separate decoding module configuration information and encoded data from inputted data received from an outside and to output the decoding module configuration information and the encoded data; a decoding module storing part configured to store a plurality of decoding modules, the decoding modules being configured to perform a predetermined unit of partial decoding process; a decoding module configuration information analyzing part configured to analyze the encoded data according to the decoding module configuration information and to generate and output syntax parsing control information and connection control information; and a decode executing part configured to form a reconfigured decoder by loading and connecting target decoding modules from the decoding module storing part by use of the connection control information and to decode the encoded data according to the syntax parsing control information by use of the reconfigured decoder. Accordingly, the decoding process can be adaptively configured for decoding, based on the encoding format of the inputted data.

Method and apparatus for adaptive decoding

A unified codec device and method are disclosed. A decoding device includes a decoding description decoder, generating at least one table by using inputted decoding description; and a codec unit, decoding and outputting encoded video data, included in an inputted bit-stream, to moving picture data by using the table. The device includes a toolbox, which stores a plurality of functional units, a reconstruction unit, which reconstructs a decoder description by receiving a compressed decoder description, a decoder description parsing unit, which converts the decoder description to an XML-based decoder description, an ADM generating unit, generates an abstract decoding model (ADM) by using the XML-based decoder description, and a decoding solution, which loads the plurality of functional units stored in the toolbox by using the ADM or the XML-based decoder description to decode input data to video data. With the present invention, it is possible to reconstruct and reassemble a decoder in various forms by using a decoder description.

In accordance to an aspect of the present invention, it is possible to encoding and decoding an image or a video by using a bit precision. A coding/decoding device using a bit-precision is disclosed. A coding device includes a bit-precision selecting unit, selecting a bit-precision value according to data to be coded; and a coding unit, generating a bit-stream by coding the data according to the selected bit-precision value, whereas the selected bit-precision value is inserted into the bit-stream. A unified codec device and a method thereof are disclosed. The unified codec device in accordance with an embodiment of the present invention comprises a decoding control unit, which sets a connection relation of functional units by interpreting connection information from an inputted universal bitstream or data, and a functional group, which consists of a plurality of functional units and in which functional units corresponding to a sequential start control of the decoding control unit are sequentially activated to process a bitstream or the data, using the control parameter, to output the inputted bitstream as image data. Using the functional unit recombination technique in accordance with the present invention, the bitstreams based on various decoding standards can be encoded/decoded without restriction.
