A pole base loading apparatus and a main chassis for a magnetic recording/reading device having an improved structure. The pole base loading apparatus includes a pair of pole base units for guiding a tape so that the tape is wound around a head drum as it reciprocates on a main chassis, a pair of loading gears respectively linked to the pole base units and gear-engaged with each other, and a loading unit for rotating the loading gears. At least one of the pair of loading gears has a hook installed therein so that the loading gear is coupled to the main chassis.

Provided are a magnetic recording and/or reading apparatus and a method of manufacturing a power transmitting gear. The magnetic recording and/or reading apparatus includes a power transmitting gear. The power transmitting gear has one end coupled to a loading motor and the other end coupled to a plurality of link gears to transmit power from a loading motor to drive components during loading and unloading of a magnetic tape. The power transmitting gear includes a first gear engaged with a motor gear coupled to a shaft of the loading motor. The power transmitting gear also includes a second gear engaged with one of the plurality of link gears and a shaft member coupling the first and second gears. A space is formed inside the shaft member to prevent the shaft member from deforming during manufacture of the shaft member.

A head drum assembly of a tape recorder in which an inner race and an outer race of an upper bearing are press-fitted onto a shaft and a rotary drum, respectively, thereby applying a preload. A resilient body, such as a compressed coil spring, is disposed between a lower bearing disposed between the rotary drum and the shaft and a stationary drum. The resilient body upwardly presses the inner race of the lower bearing, thereby applying a preload. Accordingly, the head drum assembly of the tape recorder provides enhanced assembling efficiency and reduced manufacturing costs.

Disclosed is a head drum assembly of a tape recorder. An elastic body is mounted between upper and lower bearings as preloading means, in which the upper and lower bearings are interposed between a rotary drum and the shaft. As a result, the elastic body elastically biases the inner races of the upper and lower bearings upwardly and downwardly, respectively, whereby preload can be applied to each of the upper and lower bearings.
