A 2D and 3D switchable display device includes a display panel, and a liquid crystal lens disposed on the display panel. The liquid crystal lens includes a first substrate, a second substrate, a first electrode, a second electrode, an insulating layer, a liquid crystal layer, and a third electrode. The first electrode, disposed on one side of the first substrate facing the second substrate, has a slit. The second electrode is disposed between the first substrate and the second substrate, and substantially corresponding to the slit of the first substrate.

2D and 3D switchable display device and liquid crystal lens thereof

A method of driving an electrophoretic display is set forth for avoiding image-edge residual while sequentially displaying a first frame and a second frame. During the time of displaying the first frame, set a common voltage to be a first voltage, apply a second voltage different from the first voltage to a first pixel for writing a first data signal into the first pixel, and apply the first voltage to a second pixel adjacent to the first pixel for retaining a second data signal of the second pixel, which is different from the first data signal. During the time of displaying the second frame, set the common voltage to be the second voltage, apply the first voltage to the first pixel for writing the second data signal into the first pixel, and apply the first voltage to the second pixel for retaining the second data signal of the second pixel.

Electrophoretic display and method of driving the same

A pixel unit having a display area is provided. The pixel unit includes a first substrate, a second substrate, a liquid crystal layer, and at least one ultraviolet light (UV) absorption pattern. The second substrate is disposed in parallel to the first substrate, and the liquid crystal layer is disposed between the first substrate and the second substrate. The UV absorption pattern is disposed between the first substrate and the second substrate. A part of the display area overlaps the UV absorption pattern to define at least one first alignment area, while the part of the display area which does not overlap the UV absorption pattern defines at least one second alignment area. The liquid crystal molecules of the liquid crystal layer present different pre-tilt angles in the first alignment area and the second alignment area.

Methods for manufacturing pixel unit, liquid crystal display panel, and electro-optical apparatus

A lens includes a first substrate, a second substrate and a medium layer. The first substrate includes a first electrode layer, an insulation layer, a second electrode layer and a first alignment layer. The first electrode layer includes first electrodes, and the second electrode layer includes second electrodes formed on the insulation layer. The second electrodes separately overlap the first electrodes, and one of the second electrodes shifts relatively to the corresponding first electrode toward a first direction. The first alignment layer is formed on the second electrode layer and has a first rubbing direction opposite to the first direction. The liquid crystal layer is disposed between the first substrate and the second substrate. A three-dimensional display is also disclosed herein.
