An oil drain structure of a valve timing adjusting device for an internal combustion engine is provided to adjust a valve timing of at least one of an intake valve and an exhaust valve by a torque of a cam shaft and a pressure of a working fluid. The oil drain structure of the valve timing adjusting device includes a rotation preventing means to suppress a position change between a rotor and a housing by regulating a relative rotation of the rotor with respect to the housing.

A method of controlling a lock pin of a CVVT (continuous variable valve timing) system is provided. The method includes an oil supply operation of operating a spool of a valve bolt by means of oil drawn into the CVVT system and supplying the oil to the lock pin and a switching valve. The method further includes a switching-valve opening operation of opening the switching valve by means of pressure of the oil supplied in the oil supply operation, and a lock-pin releasing operation of supplying oil to a chamber when the switching valve opens and releasing the lock-pin when there is no difference in oil pressure between an advanced chamber and a retracted chamber.

An intermediate phase adjustment apparatus of intermediate phase continuous variable valve timing includes chambers and a diverter valve balancing oil pressure between the chambers. The chamber includes an advancing chamber and a retarding chamber formed between a rotor and a stator and supplied with oil through an oil channel. The diverter valve balances oil pressure between the chambers by sliding along an oil line through which the oil moves only in one direction between the chambers so that the oil selectively moves from a chamber having higher pressure to a chamber having lower pressure due to a pressure difference.

The present disclosure provides a CVVT system including: an OCV supplying oil received from a cylinder block into a CVVT; an oil supply unit supplying oil from the OCV to a lock pin; and an actuator selectively opening or closing the oil supply unit such that oil is supplied to the lock pin and the lock pin is separated from a lock pin hole when the oil supply unit is opened.

An intermediate phase adjustment apparatus of a CVVT includes check valves provided to prevent backflow of oil when the oil moves from one chamber to another chamber in order to secure a parking position of a lock pin in a CVVT of which an advance chamber and a retard chamber are formed between a rotor and a stator, and an oil inlet portion formed at the stator to correspond to inlet portions of the check valves, wherein an oil inlet portion provided at one chamber is formed larger than an oil inlet portion provided at the other chamber by a predetermined size, and the open angles of the check valves for making oil to flow into a chamber are increased, thereby preventing an offset occurrence by a cam torque.

An engine having a variable valve timing device may include a camshaft having a cam that lifts a valve, a valve body with one side fixed with the camshaft and the other side fixed with a fixed housing, variable wings protruding on an outer circumferential surface of the fixed housing, a sprocket housing forming a delay chamber and an advance chamber with the variable wings and having a sprocket on an outer circumferential surface, a control spool disposed coaxially with the camshaft and inserted in the valve body to selectively supply hydraulic pressure from an outside to the delay chamber or the advance chamber, and an actuator fastened to an outer end of the control spool, with a side fixed to a side of the engine, and advancing or delaying the sprocket housing with respect to the valve body by adjusting the hydraulic pressure supplied to the advance chamber or the delay chamber through the control spool by pulling or pushing the control spool.

The present invention relates to a timing chain system including a hydraulic pressure timing chain tensioner autonomously controlling a hydraulic pressure for maintaining tension of a timing chain to effectively operate. The system may include: a crankshaft sprocket; a camshaft sprocket controlling exhaust or intake timing of the engine; a timing chain operably connecting the crankshaft and camshaft sprockets; a chain guide for the timing chain; a chain tensioner pushing the chain guide inward; and an oil supply unit for the chain tensioner. The chain tensioner may include a housing, an operating unit case fixed to the housing, a reciprocating plunger inserted into the operating unit case, a high pressure chamber, a low pressure chamber, a supply hydraulic path supplying oil from the oil supply unit to the low pressure chamber, and a regulator controlling hydraulic pressure of the low pressure chamber.

A variable valve lift apparatus may include a camshaft, a cam piece having first cams having lift amounts that are different formed at one side thereof, a first cam protrusion portion formed near the first cams that is slidably disposed on the camshaft to rotate with the camshaft, a first guide pin that protrudes on one side of an exterior circumference of the first cam protrusion portion, a first guide that is disposed to correspond to the first cam protrusion portion and in which a first guide groove is formed thereon to move the first cam piece in one direction along the camshaft according to the rotation of the first guide pin, and a first operation portion that moves the first guide toward the first cam protrusion portion such that the first guide pin is inserted into the first guide groove of the first guide.
