A backlight module includes a light source module and a diffuser plate. The diffuser plate has a plate body, a plurality of light-scattering areas and a plurality of light-gathering areas. The light-scattering areas and the light-gathering areas are alternately disposed on a light-entrance surface or a light-exit surface of the plate body. The light-scattering area includes a plurality of cambered units while each cambered unit has a convex cambered surface. The light-gathering area includes a plurality of prism lenses. Two side surfaces of the prism lenses intersect at an angle &#x3b8;.

The lamp holder includes a plurality of supporting portions and a plurality of holding portions. Each lamp is disposed on the corresponding supporting portion. Each holding portion includes two rods to fix the lamp at the supporting portion.

A lamp module for use in a backlight module of a flat panel display comprises a first transformer, a second transformer, a plurality of first lamps and a plurality of second lamps. The first transformer provides an AC power of a first phase, and the second transformer provides an AC power of a second phase. One end of the first lamp couples to the first transformer and another end couples to a node. One ends of the second lamps couples to the second transformer and another end couples to the node.

Backlight modules and lamp modules in flat panel displays

A backlight assembly for a liquid crystal display panel. The assembly includes a lamp housing; a lamp; a diffuser plate; and a plurality of supports. Each support has first and second members. The first member has a body and a groove formed in the body for holding the lamp and attaching the lamp to the lamp housing. A cushioning member may be disposed around a section of the lamp and between the lamp and the first member for providing cushioning therebetween. The second member has an elongated body for supporting the diffuser plate when it attempts to sag or distort.
