An optical film comprises a light incident side and a light emitting side opposite to the light incident side. A plurality of light incident microstructures are formed on the light incident side, and the light incident microstructures are tapered structures. According to the structural design of the light incident microstructures of the optical film, the light field of a light source can be expanded to achieve the purpose of emitting light at a specific angle. The invention also provides a backlight module and a display device including the optical film.

Optical film, backlight module, and display device

An optical film, an optical film set, a backlight module and a display device are provided. The optical film includes a main body, plural first prism structures and plural second prism structures. The main body has a first optical surface and a second optical surface. The first prism structures are disposed on the first optical surface. Each of the first prism structures extends along a first direction. The second prism structures are disposed on the second optical surface. Each of the second prism structures extends along a second direction. The first direction is different from the second direction.

A backlight module includes at least one optical film and a backlight unit. The optical film has a light incident side and a light emitting side opposite to the light incident side. A plurality of light incident microstructures are formed on the light incident side, and the light incident microstructures are tapered structures. The backlight unit is disposed on the light incident side of the optical film and includes a light source. According to the structural design of the light incident microstructures of the optical film, the light field of the light source can be expanded to achieve the purpose of emitting light at a specific angle. The invention also provides a display device including the backlight module.

Backlight module and display device

An optical film includes a substrate layer and a plurality of optical layers stacked on the substrate layer. The at least two optical layers have microstructures that complement to each other. The optical layer close to the substrate layer is the first optical layer, and the optical far from the substrate layer is the second optical layer. The refractive index of the first optical layer is smaller than the second optical layer, and the microstructure of the second optical layer has an acute angle. Because of the arrangement of the optical layers, the contrast of light intensity can be reduced, and the uniformity can be improved. The invention also provides a backlight module and a display device including the optical film.

A light guide includes a light input surface which has two first edges, an output surface parallel to and larger than the input surface, and two connecting surfaces, each of which interconnects the light input surface and said light input surface and has an inclined segment. Relationships of &#x3b8;&#x3c;&#x3b8;and L&#x3e;(AD)/(tan &#x3b8;) are satisfied, where &#x3b8; is an included angle defined between extensions of the inclined segments of the connecting surfaces, &#x3b8;is a critical angle for total internal reflection associated with the light guide, (L) is a distance between the light input and output surfaces, and (AD) is a distance between a location of incidence of a light beam on the light input surface and one of the first edges.

Light guide and a light device incorporating the same

A light guiding device includes a light input surface, a light output surface extending from a first edge of the light input surface, a connecting surface extending from a second edge of the light input surface, and a reflecting surface interconnecting the output surface and the connecting surface. Relationships of &#x3b8;&#x3c;&#x3c6;, &#x3b8;&#x3c;&#x3b8;and L&#x2267;(AD)/tan &#x3b8; are satisfied, where &#x3b8;is a critical angle for total internal reflection, &#x3b8; is an angle between extensions of the connecting surface and the light output surface, &#x3c6; is an angle between the reflecting and light output surfaces, (L) is a distance between the second edge and the end edge, and (AD) is a distance between a location of incidence of a light beam on the light input surface and one of the first or second edge.
