A technique for allocating a global resource in a distributed grid environment includes a master resource manager (MRM), and a plurality of slave resource managers (SRMs) each configured to allocate a global resource within a respectively controlled region of a distributed grid computing environment. The MRM receives from each SRM use data and demand data associated with the global resource by each consumer in the respective region controlled by the respective SRM. The MRM then computes an allocation of the global resource for each consumer and for each region based on the use data and the demand data. The MRM then communicates to each SRM an amount of the global resource allocated to each consumer in each respective region controlled by a respective SRM and a total allocation of the global resource for the region controlled by the respective SRM.

A technique for allocating a global resource in a distributed grid environment includes receiving from slave resource managers use and demand data associated with the global resource by each consumer in a respective region. A master resource manager computes an allocation of the global resource for each consumer and for each region based on the use data and the demand data. The master resource manager then communicates to each slave resource manager an amount of the global resource allocated to each consumer in each respective region controlled by a respective slave resource manager and a total allocation of the global resource for the region controlled by the respective slave resource manager.

A technique for allocating a global resource in a distributed grid environment includes: receiving from slave resource managers use and demand data associated with the global resource by each consumer in a respective region; compute an allocation of the resource for each consumer and for each region by determining a total amount of the resource to allocate, estimating a need by each consumer for the resource based on the use and demand data, determining an allocation of the total amount of the resource among the consumers based on the estimated need; subdividing the allocation for each consumer among each region where the consumer utilizes the resource; and computing a total allocation of the resource for each region; and communicating to each slave resource manager an amount of the resource allocated to each consumer in each respective region and the total allocation of the resource for the region.

A method for diffusion magnetic resonance imaging may be provided. The method may comprise steps of performing sampling on an object at N diffusion weighted directions to acquire undersampled but complementary k-space data, combining the complementary data from different directions to obtain a full sampled k-space data, performing initial reconstruction based on common information among images at the N diffusion weighted directions, and performing joint iterative regularized reconstruction to k-space data in all diffusion weighted directions based on the initial images to obtain the desired final images. Due to the utilization of common information at the N diffusion weighted directions, the acquisition efficiency may be enhanced and image resolution and SNR of acquired images may be improved accordingly.

A method and system for retrieving data from devices in a way that seeks to preserve privacy and ensure the integrity of the retrieved data is provided. A retrieval system is implemented on a network of devices that communicate with each other via a secure communications link. Each device is directly connected to one or more 'friend' devices that it trusts. The retrieval system operates by forwarding a request for data from one friend device to another friend device. Each friend device may optionally add data to the request until all the requested data is added. The request with the retrieved data is returned to the device that initiated the request.

Method and system for collecting information from computer systems based on a trusted relationship

A content service network for providing content-oriented services over the Internet or similar networks comprises a service delivery overlay having a plurality of application servers and a content delivery network overlay having a plurality of service-enabled proxies in content delivery paths between content providers and content consumers. The service delivery overlay and the content delivery network collaborate to provide content-oriented processing, such as adaptive video delivery, content personalization, language translation, etc. The content service network accepts subscriptions from content providers and content consumer. For each subscription, service instructions including service binding data for binding the subscribed services with the subscriber's identity are generated and distributed to the service-enabled proxies. When a service-enabled proxy detects that a message passing therethrough requires a subscribed service, it retrieves service instructions for the service and renders the service either by making a remote call to an application service or by invoking a local execution module.

System and method for providing content-oriented services to content providers and content consumers

Systems and methods for processing dynamic content are described herein. A system receives a request for content that includes an item cached by a proxy. The system issues another request to a content server to generate the other items that are not cached, without disrupting the process workflow of the original request. The system combines the items generated by the content server with the item cached by the proxy and sends the combined content to a destination.

Subject matter includes exemplary systems and related methods for fully scalable encryption of scalable multimedia. A scalable bitstream encrypted using the subject matter maintains full functionality of scalable features in the encrypted form. The exemplary scalable encryption allows transcoding, rate shaping, and other operations directly on the ciphertext without degradation of scalable compression efficiency and error resiliency.

System events preceding occurrence of a problem are likely to be similar to events preceding occurrence of the same problem at other times or on other systems. Thus, the cause of a problem may be identified by comparing a trace of events preceding occurrence of the problem with previously diagnosed traces. Traces of events preceding occurrences of a problem arising from a known cause are reduced to a series of descriptive elements. These elements are aligned to correlate differently timed but otherwise similar traces of events, converted into symbolic representations, and archived. A trace of events leading to an undiagnosed a problem similarly is converted to a symbolic representation. The representation of the undiagnosed trace is then compared to the archived representations to identify a similar archived representation. The cause of the similar archived representation is presented as a diagnosis of the problem.

Event-based automated diagnosis of known problems

An exemplary digital rights management engine and related methods divides multimedia content into service level layers, encrypts at least some of the layers, and offers access to the encrypted layers by permission. The multimedia content may be layered using multiple different layering approaches simultaneously, and access to the different types of layers may be offered simultaneously. One of the layers may be left unencrypted to allow free browsing of a low quality service level. An exemplary system of key management for digital rights management is also disclosed.
