A scanner comprises a light source for illuminating a document to be scanned, and a scanning module for scanning the document. The scanning module comprises a light sensor module for receiving light from the document and generating an image signal of the document, and a light delivery module for delivering the light to the light sensor module. The light sensor module is capable of moving along a first direction and capable of being positioned on at least a first position and a second position. The method comprises: (1) positioning the light sensor module on the first position, and using the light source and the scanning module to scan a reference picture to obtain a first reference image signal, (2) positioning the light sensor module on the second position, and using the light source and the scanning module to scan the reference picture to obtain a second reference image signal, (3) positioning the light sensor module on the first position or the second position to scan the document according to the first and the second reference image signals.

Multiple light sensor module position scanning method

A method and apparatus for speeding up the reading speed of a sequential I/O device, such as a Charge Coupled Device, is disclosed. The method involves in providing normal clocks for reading selected pixels and dummy clocks for reading unselected pixels. Since dummy clocks are faster than normal clocks, therefore the total time for processing the document can be less than using clocks of uniform speed. The apparatus of the invention comprises: a clock control device for generating two transfer pulses &phgr; and &phgr; in response to a clock cycle. The transfer pulses &phgr; and &phgr; are input to a sequential I/O device. The signal charge generated from the sequential I/O device will then output to an AND converter to be converted into digital signals. If the digital signals are marked, they will be latched. If not, they will simply be ignored.

Dummy clock control method and apparatus for a sequential I/O device

A scanner has a light and a scanning module for scanning light from a document and generating an image signal of the document. The scanning module has a plurality of light sensors, and a guiding lens for delivering light from the document to the light sensors. The guiding lens moves along a direction perpendicular to its own normal and may be set on at least a first position and a second position. The guiding lens is first set on the first position, and a reference picture is scanned to obtain a first reference image signal. The guiding lens is then set on the second position, and the reference picture is again scanned to obtain a second reference image signal. The guiding lens is then set to the first position or the second position, according to relative qualities of the first reference image signal and the second reference image signal.
