A frequency-dependent signal limiter using a paired combination of a bandpass filter (or 'selection filter') and an attenuating equalizing filter (or “cutting filter”) limit the amount of distortion generated by an audio output device in an acoustic rendering system. A bank of one or more of these pairs in series can be used to limit selected frequencies identified as primary causes of distortion in the audio output device to specified levels that avoid distortion.

Architectures of numbers of microphones and their positioning in a device for sound source direction estimation and source separation are presented. The directions of sources are front, back, left, right, top, and bottom of the device, and can be determined by amplitude and phase differences of microphone signals with proper microphone positioning. The source separation is to separate the sound coming from different directions from the mix of sources in microphone signals. This can be done with blind source separation (BSS), independent component analysis (ICA), and beamforming (BF) technologies. The device can perform many kinds of audio enhancements for the device. For example, it can perform noise reduction for communications; it can choose a source from a desired direction to perform speech recognition; and it can correct sound perceiving directions in microphones and generate desired sound images like stereo audio output. In addition, with source separation, 2.1, 5.1, 7.1, and other audio encoding and surround sound effects can be straightforward.

Techniques of shifting the lens stack from an image capture sensor within a smart device and/or mobile device are disclosed. The shifting of the center of the lens stack from the center of the sensor allows the Field of View (FOV) of such a camera assembly to have an angle from the normal and/or perpendicular direction from the surface of the device. Such an angle allows the FOV to be substantially horizontal and/or parallel to a surface when the device is held (e.g. by a kickstand) at a similar angle from the vertical direction. When the front of the lens stack is substantially at a front surface of the device and the sensor is attached to a back surface of the device, then the Total Track Length (TTL) is substantially the depth of the device.

Techniques for device camera angle are described. In one or more implementations, a camera is mounted in a computing device at an angle based on an orientation of the computing device. For example, when the computing device is positioned on a surface and at an angle to the surface (such as when supported by a kickstand), the mounting angle of the camera is such that an optical axis of the camera points forward, and not towards the surface. In at least some implementations, a computing device includes a camera that is physically adjustable to support different orientations of the computing device. In at least some implementations, images that are captured via a camera on a computing device can be manipulated based on an orientation of the computing device.

New systems and methods are hereby provided that inherently and naturally resolve the challenges of synthesizing coordinated inputs from multiple cameras. For example, a multi-sensor mediator may collect the input data from multiple sensors, and generate a composite signal that encodes the combined data from the different sensors. The multi-sensor mediator may then relay the composite signal to a sensor controller, as if the signal were coming from a single sensor. A computing device that receives the input from the sensor controller may then generate an output based on the composite signal, which may include processing the composite signal to combine the separate signals from the different sensors, such as to provide a stereo image output, for example. The multi-sensor mediator makes such an output possible by ensuring coordinated input and processing of the input from the multiple sensors, for example.

A system and method for reducing power consumption of a wireless input device is disclosed. The input device may convert between a high power state and a low power state. In the high power state, a transmitter and light sources are activated, whereas both the transmitter and the light sources are deactivated in the low power state. Following a period of inactivity in which neither a key sensor for activatable keys nor a presence sensor for the user transmit input, the input device may convert from the high power state to the low power state to conserve energy. When the presence sensor detects the presence of the user, however, the input converts to the high power state wherein the transmitter and the light sources are activated.

A method and system for determining the position of a movable member in an electronic input device within a predefined resolution. Two offset signals indicate the position of the movable member. The time required for each signal to cross a threshold level is measured and inverted, revealing an offset sinusoidal relationship. The offset sinusoids may be plotted against each other to reveal an approximate circle of inverse time samples for a cycle. Corresponding inverted minimum and maximum times are used to determine a center reference value for each signal. As a function of the inverted times, a quadrant of the circle is determined. Within a quadrant, a sector most closely corresponding to the position of the movable member is determined from among a plurality of predefined sectors that define the resolution. A number of sectors between position samples of the movable member are accumulated and communicated to a host device.
