A granular or particulate composition of matter that includes algae and bacteria is described. The algal-sludge granules are generated by incubating a wastewater system with algae under specific quiescent conditions with illumination. Once the algal-sludge granules are present, it is no longer necessary to maintain quiescent conditions, and reaction with wastewater under stirred conditions is possible. The methods described include ab initio generation of the algal-sludge granules, use of the algal-sludge granules to remediate wastewater, and use of the algal-sludge granules to generate biomass. It is believed that the remediation of wastewater by algal-sludge granules will save the energy for wastewater treatment, recover the energy in wastewater in the form of biomass, and reduce the wastewater treatment carbon footprint.

The systems and methods described provide for reducing sludge generation, and thus sludge wasting and handling, by including an anaerobic completely stirred tank reactor (CSTR) as a bioreactor in a side-stream. The CSTR provides a significant simplification of side-stream treatment design, enhanced sludge minimization, and enhanced removal of nitrogen and phosphorous without the need to add organic carbon. The described systems and methods provide generation of biogas including both hydrogen and methane from the activated sludge system. The described systems and methods avoid complex reactor designs for nutrient removal.

Gallium nitride material devices and methods associated with the devices are described. The devices may be designed to provide enhanced thermal conduction and reduced thermal resistance. The increased thermal conduction through and out of the gallium nitride devices enhances operability of the devices, including providing excellent RF operation, reliability, and lifetime.

A method for positron emission imaging is described. A portion of an imaging subject containing a radiopharmaceutical labeled with positron emitting radionuclide is disposed between and in close proximity with a pair of gamma detectors in opposing positional relationship. Pairs of coincidence gamma rays emitted from positron annihilation events are recorded by the pair of gamma detectors. The gamma detectors are scanned over and across an area of interest of the imaging subject while their position information is recorded. The recorded gamma ray events at each scan interval are used to represent two dimensional image of positron emitting radionuclide distribution within the imaging subject.

A tank type liquid air cleaner which comprises a L-shaped air inlet pipe, a liquid tank, an overflow cylinder within the liquid tank, a ball valve in a tapered ball valve containing tube disposed in the lower portion of the liquid tank, a nozzle injection member, and a fan, whereby the air cleaner effectively cleans dirty air containing dust and debris and can be easily and completely cleaned the internal surface of the overflow cylinder and the liquid tank.

A tank type liquid vacuum cleaner includes, an intake hose, a L-shaped air inlet tube, a liquid tank, an anti-overflow cylinder in the liquid tank, a ball valve in a ball valve containing tube disposed within the anti-overflow cylinder, an air outlet, a suction fan, and a three-stage switch, whereby the vacuum cleaner effectively cleans up dust, debris, dirty air, and the like, can be easily disassembled for cleaning the internal surface of the liquid tank, and can be readily converted to an air cleaner when the intake hose is removed therefrom. Further, the cleaner is constructed so that the liquid in the liquid tank is prevented from spilling when the vacuum cleaner accidentally falls over on the floor.

An aerobraking orbital transfer vehicle (AOTV) (80) has aerobrake (82) with a blunted raked-off circular-cone configuration. The other components of the AOTV, including command/control module (95), fuel tanks (86, 88, 89 and 91), rocket engines (94) and afterbody (84), are positioned substantially along resultant force axis (104) of the AOTV (80). The axis (104) coincides with the resultant (sum of lift and drag) force vector. Afterbody (84) is mounted behind the aerobrake (82) with its length extending rearwardly from the aerobrake. The base flow clearance angle .phi. of the aerobrake (80) is 25.degree., thus allowing the afterbody (84) to extend rearwardly from the aerobrake (82) to a much greater extent than possible with a raked-off elliptic-cone aerobraking shield configuration. Afterbody size limitation and other problems associated with the raked-off elliptic-cone aerobraking shield configuration are alleviated by the combination of the aerobrake shape and positioning of the fuel tanks (86, 88, 89 and 91), rocket engines (94) and afterbody (84).
