In an escalator having a plurality of steps connected to an endless chain and moved along an endless path, a rotation locus of step forward wheels at both end portions is shifted toward end portions of the escalator relative to a rotation locus of the chain. A forward wheel guide track for guiding forward wheels of the steps is arranged, at both end portions of the escalator, so that a straight distance between forward wheels of two adjacent steps, which distance tends to be shortened by the chain following an arc at both end portions, is extended. By such constructions, interference between adjacent steps hardly occurs even if the rotation diameter of the steps at each end portion of the escalator is made small. Therefore, the rotation diameter of the steps can be made smaller than a conventional one and the escalator thickness (depth) can be made small.

Escalator

An object of the present invention is to provide an escalator installation method by which the installation operation can be conducted with the high operation efficiency and an escalator can be stably installed. In an architectural structure having a stairway, the present invention comprises: a first process for forming a lower pit in a lower floor positioned on the lower side of the stairway; a second process for forming an upper pit in an upper floor positioned on the upper side of the stairway; and a third process for accommodating a lower flat portion of an escalator constituted by an integral structure in the lower pit with the part of the stairway positioned between the upper pit and the lower pit being maintained so as not to be drilled, accommodating an upper flat portion in the upper pit, and setting an inclined portion of the escalator above the part of the stairs positioned between the upper pit and the lower pit.

Escalator installation method

Escalator apparatus of the invention is of the type that has a step whose step board can be raised to provide a surface for carrying a wheelchair. In order to realize conveyance of a large size wheelchair or handcart without changing the installation space for the escalator, the escalator apparatus of the invention is structured such that the step boards of a plurality of adjacent steps are movable upwardly and downwardly.

In a passenger conveyor, in order to reduce installation dimensions and, more particularly, a height of the passenger conveyor, the passenger conveyor is constructed to be driven by a linear motor, with stators and moving members of the linear motor being formed such that surfaces thereof facing each other are located in horizontal planes and generated magnetic flux of the stators is perpendicular to the facing surfaces. A passenger conveyor, such as an escalator or a moving walkway, in which a device for transmitting a change of direction of the movement of treadboards to a passenger by changing the passenger's sense of touch is provided in the vicinity of a boundary between a horizontal path and an inclined path. With this construction, a level difference between the adjacent treadboards is produced when the treadboard moves into the inclined path, thereby preventing the passenger from accidentally falling down.

A passenger conveyor comprises a moving handrail mounted on a guide rail provided around a balustrade and a handrail driving device for driving the moving handrail to move circulatively. An escalator comprises a plurality of treadboards, coupled with each other in the endless form, for conveying people thereon, a driving device for driving the treadboards, which has a driving mechanism, including an electric motor, for transmitting a driving force from the motor to the treadboards and a power converting unit for supplying electric power to the motor. Component devices of the driving device are categorized into two groups in consideration of heat generated in the respective component devices. Component devices, which are categorized into a group of heat generating devices, are installed in a machine room, and component devices, which are categorized into a group of heat sensitive devices, are installed in another machine room. In a balustrade for a passenger conveyor, a main deck is fixedly mounted to an upper end of a vertically upright balustrade panel, and a guide frame is arranged on the main deck for slidingly guiding a handrail.
