A short-range wireless communication network may be established by direct communication between two or more wireless communication devices and/or communication via an access point to permit game play between a plurality of devices. A conventional cellular telephone includes an integrated short-range transceiver. The short-range transceivers of multiple wireless communication devices can be coupled together to dynamically form a short-range communication network without utilizing any wireless communication network supported by a Public Land Mobile Network (PLMN). Data is disseminated between the wireless communication devices using a data message synchronization process. Messages may also be carried from one wireless network to another as the communication devices are carried by individuals.

System and method for game play in a dynamic communication network

User equipment (UE) is configured to automatically detect the presence of an access point (AP) in any one of a plurality of venues and to transmit identification information to the AP to authenticate the UE. The venue receiving the authentication request transfers the authentication request and identification information to an authentication server to automatically authenticate the UE whenever it is carried inside a venue. The venues may be coupled to a Cloud network with the authentication information stored on the Cloud network. Whenever the UE enters any of the venues, the UE is automatically authenticated when it comes within range of any AP within any of the venues. The venue may use an application program interface to provide advertising, coupons, web links, images, audio, video, streaming video, and the like to the UE. The venue may direct the UE to a website or provide a link to the website.

System and method for handset operation in a wireless communication network

A communication network includes an instructor wireless communication device and a plurality of student wireless communication devices, which may be conventional smartphones. The student devices do not communicate with the wireless service provider, but communicate with the instructor device in the classroom via a short-range communication network established between the student devices and the instructor device directly or via an access point. In one embodiment, communication with the cellphone network service provider is cut off by disabling the network transceiver in each student device. The instructor device can exchange question and answer data with the student devices. The system can be configured to provide security in student responses to prevent potential cheating. Student answers may be automatically collected, collated, and graded. The answers are accompanied by an ID that uniquely identifies each student. The system may further provide for automatic classroom attendance and participation by logging nonresponsive student devices.

System and method for wireless communication in an educational setting

A cell tower is manufactured from a steel plate that is pressed into a polygon form, such as a 12-sided polygon or a 16-sided polygon. The tower is designed for direct embedding into the ground or attachment to a buried portion. The base portion contains apertures sized to permit the installation of an equipment rack directly into the interior of the tower. Other apertures in the tower provide handholes for installation of the equipment, backup batteries, and cabling. The top section of the cell tower includes mounting members for one or more sets of cellular radio antennas and/or microwave antennas. The antennas, and associated remote radio units, are mounted to the top of the cell tower and are hidden from view by one or more shrouds. The shrouds provide a visible barrier, but have minimal impact on the radio frequency characteristics.

The short communication range of the access points assures that the wireless device is in the casino. A gaming communication link is used to exchange game play data (e.g., betting, card dealing, etc.) between a gaming controller and one or more wireless devices. Game play may be conducted between a player and the house or between a plurality of payers. In one embodiment, all communication is routed between players using the gaming controller so that the house controls the transmission of all game play data.

A wireless communication device includes conventional components to permit a network communication link to be established with a wireless communication network. In addition, the wireless communication device includes a non-network short-range transceiver that detects the presence of other similarly equipped devices. When two such equipped devices come within proximity of each other, a direct non-network wireless communication link is established.

System and method for direct communication between wireless communication devices

A wireless communication device includes conventional components to permit a network communication link to be established with a wireless communication network. In addition, the wireless communication device includes a non-network transceiver that detects the presence of a wireless access point. When two such equipped devices come within proximity of the access point, a non-network wireless communication link is established. The two devices exchange portions of profile data which is analyzed to determine if a match exists. If a match occurs, a contact notification is generated. This permits the wireless communication device to act as an auto-detecting social network device that detects the proximity of other devices whose owners have a profile that matches the stored user preference data. Subsequent communication may occur in a conventional manner using the wireless network communication channels and web applications may also be used to gain additional information.
