In some implementations, a computing device can present alight notifications to a user when the user (e.g., user device) is approaching a public transit stop where the user should depart the public transit vehicle the user is currently occupying. For example, a user may use a user device to generate a public transit route that includes a starting location, a sequence of public transit stops, and a destination location. While traversing the transit route, the user may need to exit public transit vehicle (e.g., to reach the destination location, to switch transit lines, etc.). The user device can identify transit stops along the route where the user should exit a transit vehicle and present notifications prompting the user to exit the transit vehicle at the upcoming stop as the user device approaches the identified transit stops.

In some embodiments, an electronic device displays suggested routes based on the characteristics of respective vehicles. In some embodiments, an electronic device receives data for respective vehicles from a source external to the electronic device. In some embodiments, an electronic device anonymizes a vehicle identifier and determines customized suggested routes using the anonymized vehicle identifier.

User interfaces for customized navigation routes

Some embodiments of the invention provide a navigation application that uses a novel traffic notification scheme for providing traffic related notifications during a navigation presentation that is provided by a device. While providing a navigation presentation, the application iteratively monitors traffic conditions along the route. When traffic conditions meet a set of one or more threshold criteria, the application identifies a type of traffic notification that it should provide from several possible traffic notifications types. Next, without receiving any input from outside of the device, the application provides a traffic notification that is associated with the selected traffic notification type. In some embodiments, the traffic notification types include a notification (1) relating to traffic congestion along the current route, (2) relating to one or more faster routes that can replace the current route, and (3) regarding a road closure or extreme delay along the current route.

Traffic notifications during navigation

In some implementations, a navigation service can provide a plurality of navigation instructions for a user to traverse a route to an intended destination. The navigation service can also identify at least one portion of the determined route that requires additional guidance based on one or more factors. For each portion of the route that requires additional guidance, the navigation service may generate one or more additional guidance instructions to be inserted within the plurality of navigation instructions, forming an enhanced set of instructions for traversing the route.

Lane and smart guidance between navigation maneuvers

A method of conserving power for a navigation application of a device is provided. The method determines a time for timely departure to an event that is stored in a calendar application of the device. The time for timely departure is determined based on the starting time of the event and an estimated travel time from the current location of the device to the location of the event. The method provides the time for timely departure to the calendar application. The method calculates the time for providing an update to the time for timely departure based on the remaining time before the time for timely departure. The method hibernates the navigation application until the time for providing the update. The method repeats the determining, providing, calculating, and hibernating several times.

Power saving techniques for a navigation application

A method of rendering an object comprises, with a processor, generating a data set that mathematically defines an object, tessellating the object into a number of smaller objects to form a number of data subsets, storing the data subsets in a memory cache, converting the data subsets into a rasterized object, and displaying the rasterized object on a display device. A system for rendering an object comprises a processor to generate a data set that mathematically defines an object, tessellate the object into a number of smaller objects to form data subsets, transform the data subsets using a linear operator, and store the data subsets in a memory cache, a graphics processor to convert the data subsets into a rasterized object and display the rasterized object on a display device and a memory cache to receive and store the data subsets.

Displaying visual images by fractional color gradient increments. Distances between adjacent pairs of color shades in a color gradient are scaled down to distances of which the largest is one. The scaled distances are converted into fractions. A largest common denominator of the fractions is determined. The fractions are converted into fractions having the largest common denominator. Numerators of the converted fractions are used to provide samples of the color gradient at intervals of the largest common denominator. A texture is created from the samples. A visual image is displayed on a visual display according to the texture.

A method for rendering graphical data is provided. In one embodiment, the method includes rendering an aliased version of one or more polygons and sampling one or more edges of the aliased polygons. The method also includes calculating a curve that approximates the edge portion and intersects a set of pixels, determining the proportional areas of the pixels located between the curve and the aliased edge portion, and rendering an anti-aliased version of the edge portion based on the proportional areas. Various devices, machine-readable media, and other methods for anti-aliasing of a graphical object are also provided.
