A surgical stapling device includes an anvil section, a cartridge section, a staple cartridge, a clamping lever, and a firing assembly. The staple cartridge is releasably supported on the cartridge section and includes a lockout assembly and a knife assembly. The knife assembly includes a knife bar having a cutting blade for cutting tissue clamped between the anvil and cartridge sections. The lockout assembly includes a lockout member that movable from an unlocked position to a locked position and is positioned to shield the cutting blade in both positions. The lockout member is configured to prevent binding of the lockout member to facilitate movement of the lockout member from the unlocked position to the locked position after the stapling device is fired.

A trocar assembly for releasable engagement with an adapter assembly of a surgical stapling instrument includes a bearing assembly for distributing the axial load experienced by a drive member during tissue stapling. The bearing assembly is disposed within a housing between a flange of the housing and a flange of a drive member. The bearing assembly is configured to rotatably support the drive member and includes a thrust bearing, a rigid member, and a compressible member disposed between the thrust bearing and the rigid member. The compressible member includes a first compressed condition having a first thickness during a clamping stroke of the surgical stapling instrument and a second compressed condition having a second thickness during a stapling stroke of the surgical stapling instrument. The second thickness is less than the first thickness.

A suture grasper for retrieving a suture from an internal surgical site includes an inner shaft defining a tissue-penetrating tip, an intermediate shaft disposed about the inner shaft, and an outer shaft disposed about the intermediate shaft. The intermediate shaft defines a plurality of spring fingers movable between a spread position, wherein the spring fingers extend radially outwardly from the inner shaft, and a compressed position, wherein the spring fingers are approximated about the inner shaft. The outer shaft is selectively translatable relative to the inner shaft and the intermediate shaft for moving the spring fingers between the spread position and the compressed position.

Devices, systems, and methods for wound closure

An actuation mechanism, and a handle assembly and a surgical clip applier including the same are disclosed. The actuation mechanism includes a drive bar movable through a stroke having first and second stroke portions and an output gear rack. First and second intermediate gears include input portions operably coupled to a trigger and output portions defining different diameters. In the first stroke portion, the output portion of the first intermediate gear is engaged with the gear rack such that the first intermediate gear drives the drive bar. In the second stroke portion, the output portion of the second intermediate gear is disposed in engagement with the gear rack such that the second intermediate gear drives the drive bar. A different mechanical advantage is provided in the first portion of the stroke length as compared to the second portion of the stroke length.

Geared actuation mechanism and surgical clip applier including the same

A surgical device comprising a handle housing, an adapter, an elongated portion, an end effector, a first drive element, and a second drive element is disclosed. The adapter includes a first drive assembly configured to mechanically engage a portion of a first actuation mechanism of the handle housing. The elongated portion is configured to extend distally from the adapter. The first drive element is disposed in mechanical cooperation with the first drive assembly. The second drive element is disposed in mechanical cooperation with the first drive assembly. Rotation of the first drive assembly in a first direction about the longitudinal axis causes distal translation of the first drive element. Rotation of the first drive assembly in a second direction about the longitudinal axis causes distal translation of the second drive element. The first direction is opposite from the second direction.

At least one of the first and second end plates comprises multiple layers of material joined together, such that a non-uniform internal structure is formed.

A shaft is mounted on side walls of a rocker arm, extending through a central cavity of the rocker arm. A bearing is located within the cavity of the rocker arm, positioned over the shaft. A yoke member adapted for mounting on the internal combustion engine has a curved portion enclosing a portion of the outer circumference of the bearing such that the bearing supports the rocker arm when the yoke mount rocker arm assembly is mounted on the internal combustion engine.
