A blood sampling device includes a housing and a lancet supporting a lancet needle or tip, the lancet and needle being urged or urgeable in a pricking direction. A trigger mechanism is moveable to a fire position for releasing the lancet to travel in the pricking direction. A removable safety cap initially covers the lancet needle. The lancet has an initial position in which movement of the trigger mechanism to its fire position is blocked and an intermediate position in which the trigger mechanism may be moved to its fire position. The intermediate position is obtainable only on removal of the safety cap.

Blood sampling devices

A blood sampling device includes a housing and a lancet supporting a lancet needle or tip, the lancet and needle being urged or urgeable in a pricking direction. Skin stimulus arrangements are described for creating a stimulus in the skin in the vicinity of a treatment or wound site to alleviate the perception of pain. First and second textured surfaces are provided for making contact with the skin, with the surfaces being moved to create a stimulus which alleviates the perception of pain. The movement may be linear, rotary or a combination of both, and just a single textured surface may be provided.

Skin stimulus

A lancing device includes a housing () and a lancet holder movably mounted within the housing. The lancet holder has a forward portion defining a socket () for partially surrounding and retaining in use the rear portion of a lancet. A lancet release element () can be moved forward to cooperate with lugs on the socket to expand it to allow insertion and/or removal of the lancet with minimal insertion or withdrawal force.

Skin penetration device

Apparatus for loading into an injection device and comprising a syringe and a boot remover. The syringe has a syringe body, a needle and a boot providing a sterile cover for the needle. The boot remover has a body for substantially enclosing the boot and a lip or lips projecting inwardly to engage a junction between the boot and the syringe body. The boot remover also has, at its widest point, substantially the same outer dimension as, or a smaller outer dimension than, the syringe body. The apparatus can be loaded into an injection device through an opening at a distal end of the device such that, when loaded, a portion of the boot remover projects through a proximal end of the device to facilitate removal of the boot remover and boot by a user. This arrangement allows a user to remove the boot from the syringe by holding and pulling on said grip.

Syringe and needle cover remover

A sheath remover device is of elongate tubular form having a sheath capture region at one end and a passage along which a captured sheath may pass from the capture region. A plurality of latching fingers, each with an internally directed latch, are equi-spaced in the capture region. Two further inwardly directed latches are on the cut out regions. The sheath remover is designed so that, a sheath already disposed in the sheath capture region is pushed along the passage away from the sheath capture region when the remover is offered up to and engages the subsequent sheath. The spacing of the latches and is such that the earlier sheath is not released from latches until the latches have securely engaged in the subsequent sheath, thereby providing an indication of secure engagement of the subsequent sheath. The sheath remover may also be used as a cap and/or a cocking rod.
