An ink delivery system for an inkjet printer has an ink supply tank and a pair of printheads located at different heights. A primary ink delivery circuit delivers ink to a pair of intermediate tanks, each tank maintained a precise distance below a respective one of the printheads. Ink is pumped to the higher tank to the level of a weir and overflowing ink flows under gravity to the lower tank. The overflowing ink fills the lower tank to the level of a weir and overflowing ink returns to the supply tank. Secondary ink delivery circuits have capillary lines for supply of ink from each of the intermediate tanks to the respective printhead. Ink is maintained in the supply lines ready for inkjet printing by establishing a negative pressure between each intermediate tank and the respective printhead.

Ink delivery system for inkjet printheads

Inkjet printing apparatus has a printhead mounted on a printer carriage and a maintenance assembly mounted on a maintenance carriage. Media are transported to the printhead for printing. To prepare for maintenance operations, a printer drive unit drives the printhead carriage between a printing position and a printer parked position where it is spaced from the printhead. A maintenance drive unit drives the maintenance assembly between a maintenance assembly and a position next to the printhead where it occupies the space vacated by the printhead.

Inkjet printer maintenance arrangement and method

A printing apparatus has a series of inkjet print heads spaced from one another in a transport direction. A continuous belt driven around a roller system is used to feed sheet media successively to the print heads so that a partial image printed by one print head is overprinted at a subsequent print head with registration of the partial images. A sheet medium is caused to become electrostatically tacked to the belt by passing the sheet past a charging device. Movement of the belt is tracked by a tracking sub-system and operation of the print heads is coordinated with the tracked belt movement to achieve precise registration of the partial images.

Multiple print head printing apparatus and method of operation

Electromagnetically recognizable E13B characters can be printed onto conventional paper by an inkjet printer using liquid magnetic ink. The printer receives data representing an E13B character, and prints the E13B character onto a substrate according to a modified E13B character pattern. The modified E13B pattern provides for an interior of the E13B character to be substantially completely filled, and includes one or more void arrangements arranged and positioned relative to a corresponding internal detection edge, and sized and shaped, to amplify the difference between the upstream magnetic signal detected on the upstream side of the internal detection edge and the downstream magnetic signal detected on the downstream side of the internal detection edge when an electromagnetic read head reads the resulting printed E13B character.

Method for inkjet printing of E13B magnetic ink character recognition characters and substrate having such characters printed thereon

The flash units are housed in reflector assemblies and actuated in a sequence that entirely exposes both sides of the sheet while drawing a constant amount of electrical power. Constructions of the reflector include an extruded housing, snap-in replaceable reflector surfaces, and a manifold structure that achieves cooling, fume scavenging and paper flattening. In one embodiment a two-sided sheet moves past a pair of oppositely directed flash units which are powered by a single power supply. A specularly reflective surface provides a level of reflected illumination which complements the light received directly from the flash tube to provide a constant level of illumination and fuse a toned image.

Printer flash fusing system

A method and apparatus for converting data representative of a plurality of cells arranged independently of one another on a page into data is raster scan order for subsequent printing. Cell data for individual cells is fetched in an order dependent on the line of raster scan where the cell first occurs and the bit position for the first bit representing the cell. This cell data is compared with earlier fetched cells to build up raster scan lines from cells occuring in the lines.

Development of raster scan images from independent cells of imaged data

An electrographic printhead assembly comprises first and second sets of electrodes which define an array of crossing regions for generating packets of electric charge. An RF electrode burst actuates a first electrode to generate charge carriers while a varying extraction potential is developed. A second electrode is then activated with one or more control pulses which are synchronized with the RF burst and with selected portions of the varying extraction potential to gate charge carriers from the printhead. This deposits the desired charge level for each dot on an imaging member. The assembly forms a gray scale latent image for printing, and provides enhanced range without requiring higher frequency or longer duration RF bursts.

Ionographic raster scan printing apparatus capable of printing with selectable print density utilizes an imaging drum having a surface movable in a process direction, a connector assembly for receiving an imaging module having a characteristic dot density determined by a set of control electrodes individually driven by clocked driver elements, a sensor module for generating density signals representative of the characteristic dot density, and a position encoder for generating position signals representative of the instantaneous position of the imaging drum surface. A scan clock synthesizer module generates activation signals for clocking the driver elements, the signals having a clock frequency proportional to an algebraic combination of the density signals and the position signals.

Selectable density charge deposition printing system

The present invention relates to non-impact printing apparatus and more particularly to apparatus which converts originating image data in ASCII, EPCDIC or equivalent form into output image data in raster scan arrangement suitable for presentation to a printing subsystem.
