An electronically actuated droplet delivery device includes a housing with an airflow exit at a mouthpiece and an airflow entrance in fluid communication with the airflow exit via an airflow channel. An aperture plate coupled to an electronic actuator energized by a power source produces a droplet plume from a fluid reservoir in fluid communication with the aperture plate. A change of airflow trajectory in the airflow channel and/or a fan provides inertial filtering and removal of droplets in the plume that have a mass mean aerodynamic diameter greater than 5 μm.

A droplet delivery device with a small volume drug ampoule and related methods for delivering precise and repeatable dosages to a subject for pulmonary use is disclosed. The droplet delivery device is configured to facilitate the ejection of small, e.g., single use, volumes of a therapeutic agent. The droplet delivery device includes a housing, a mouthpiece, a small volume drug ampoule, an ejector mechanism, and at least one differential pressure sensor. The delivery device is automatically breath actuated by the user when the differential pressure sensor senses a predetermined pressure change within housing. The droplet delivery device is then actuated to generate a plume of droplets having an average ejected particle diameter within the respirable size range, e.g, less than about 5-6 &#x3bc;m, so as to target the pulmonary system of the user. The small volume drug ampoule may include a reservoir which comprises an internal flexible membrane separating two internal volumes, a first background pressure fluid volume and a second drug volume.

The in-line droplet delivery device includes a housing, a mouthpiece, a reservoir, an ejector mechanism, and at least one differential pressure sensor. The in-line droplet delivery device is automatically breath actuated by the user when the differential pressure sensor senses a predetermined pressure change within housing. The in-line droplet delivery device is then actuated to generate a plume of droplets having an average ejected particle diameter within the respirable size range, e.g, less than about 5-6 &#x3bc;m, so as to target the pulmonary system of the user. the droplet delivery device is configured in an in-line orientation in that the housing, its internal components, and various device components (e.g., the mouthpiece, air inlet flow element, etc.) are orientated in a substantially in-line or parallel configuration (e.g., along the airflow path) so as to form a small, hand-held device.

An fusion cage having a longitudinal element and two planar bendable expansion arms slideably captured in a track on opposing sides, the expansion arms expandable from a pre-implantation position adjacent to the longitudinal element to a deployed position bounding an area around the longitudinal element in which bone graft material may be packed and retained after implantation into the intervertebral space. The longitudinal element is eliminated in favor of front and back lateral tracks in which the opposing ends of the expansion arms are slideably received so as to allow expansion of the bounded areas in both a lateral and anterior-posterior direction by sliding within the channels. Expansion of the area within the bendable members may be accomplished by rotation of leaves to which the bendable members are rigidly and slideably affixed.

Vehicle collision warning system

An apparatus and method for the thermal treatment of tissue, e.g., prostatic tissue, with RF energy is disclosed. The apparatus includes a handle dimensioned to be grasped with a single hand of a surgeon, an elongated portion extending distally from the handle and defining a longitudinal axis, at least one electrode extending within the elongated portion and movable between a non-deployed position and a fully deployed position, and a trigger mechanism associated with the handle and having a trigger operatively connected to the one electrode. The trigger is movable to selectively and incrementally move the one electrode between the non-deployed position and the fully deployed position. A ratchet mechanism permits movement of the trigger in one direction corresponding to movement of the one electrode toward the fully deployed position while preventing movement of the trigger in a second direction. The elongated portion of the apparatus may be rotatable about the longitudinal axis to reposition the one electrode.

Apparatus and method for thermal treatment of body tissue

An apparatus for the radio-frequency (RF) thermal treatment of tissue, particularly, prostatic tissue is intended for use in conjunction with a conventional endoscope. The apparatus includes an elongate member having at least one passageway extending at least partially along its length, a delivery tube disposed within the passageway and having a memory portion comprised of a shape memory material, and being moveable within the passageway to extend the memory portion from the elongate member to permit the memory portion to assume a normal unstressed curved configuration, an electromagnetic probe disposed within the delivery tube and moveable within the delivery tube to extend a probe end portion beyond the delivery tube and within tissue. The electromagnetic probe has sufficient flexibility to follow the curved path defined by the memory portion of the delivery tube. The elongate member of the apparatus may further include a channel dimensioned to receive a conventional endoscope. Proximally positioned actuators permit selective movement of the delivery tube and electromagnetic probe. A system for thermal treatment of tissue includes a thermal treatment apparatus and an endoscope which is positioned within a working channel of the apparatus.
