A lightweight impact resistant window comprising a glass ply, an energy absorbing plastics interlayer and a ply of thermoset polyurethane having a Shore hardness of at least 75D, wherein the combined thickness of energy absorbing interlayer and thermoset polyurethane ply is at least 1.0 mm.

Lightweight glazings

A glass ply having a chemically strengthened surface, for example a chemically etched surface, for use in a laminated glazing is treated by hot melting a thermoplastic material onto such strengthened glass surface prior to incorporation of the glass ply into the required laminate. The thermoplastic material may be polyvinylbutyral but is preferably polyurethane.

Glass treatment

A vehicle window includes a glass ply with a layer of thermoset polyurethane over the outer face of the glass which inhibits Restrahlen Band reflection at 8-12 microns from the glass. The polyurethane layer may include an inner layer portion of relatively hard polyurethane and an outer layer of relatively soft polyurethane.

Conveyance window with suppressed reflections

An impact-resistant laminate has adhered to a rear glass face, opposite to the face which receives the impact, a polycarbonate sheet up to about 3 mm thick which is sufficiently thin to conform to the rear glass face and to be adhered thereto without preforming. Preferably the thickness of the polycarbonate sheet is in the range about 0.25 mm to about 0.64 mm, and it has an abrasion-resistant self-healing coating. The laminate may include toughened or annealed glass sheets.

Impact-resistant laminate

A lightweight impact-resistant window panel, for example for adhesive glazing to the airframe of an unpressurized aircraft, has outer and inner glass plies which are laminated with an intermediate impact-resistant plastics ply. An inner ply of impact-resistant plastics is bonded to the rearward face of the inner glass ply. The aggregate thickness of the impact-resistant plies is in the range from about 1 mm to about 7.5 mm.

Window Panel

An impact-resistant laminate has a front glass sheet which receives an impact such as a bullet, and a rear polycarbonate sheet. A thin polycarbonate sheet up to about 1 mm thick is adhered to the rear polycarbonate sheet, and carries a self-healing polyurethane coating.

A window panel for an unpressurized aircraft has an outer glass sheet and an inner sheet of plastics material. A peripheral adhesive band is adhered to the exposed face of the inner sheet and has an adhesive face of a thermoplastic material for adhesion to a window frame. An electrical heater is embedded in the peripheral band close to its adhesive face.
