A distributed computing device stores user preference data representing preferences of a user with respect to a portion of a set of items. The distributed computing device randomly samples the user preference data to calculate sampled user preference data. The distributed computing device iteratively executes, in conjunction with additional distributed computing devices connected by a network, a process to determine a consensus result for the sampled user preference data. The consensus result is based on the sampled user preference data and additional sampled user preference data calculated by the additional distributed computing devices and based on preferences of additional users. The distributed computing device determines a recommendation model based on the consensus result, the recommendation model reflecting preferences of the user and additional users. The distributed computing device identifies an item to provide to the user as a recommendation based on the recommendation model, and provides recommendation to the user.

Decentralized recommendations using distributed average consensus

A distributed computing device generates a gradient descent matrix based on data received by the distributed computing device and a model stored on the distributed computing device. The distributed computing device calculates a sampled gradient descent matrix based on the gradient descent matrix and a random matrix. The distributed computing device iteratively executes a process to determine a consensus gradient descent matrix in conjunction with a plurality of additional distributed computing devices connected by a network to the distributed computing device. The consensus gradient descent matrix is based on the sampled gradient descent matrix and a plurality of additional sampled gradient decent matrices calculated by the plurality of additional distributed computing devices. The distributed computing device updates the model stored on the distributed computing device based on the consensus gradient descent matrix.

Coordinated learning using distributed average consensus

Each of a plurality of distributed computing devices receives a respective data partition of a plurality of data partitions for a computing task. A first distributed computing device generates a first partial result of a plurality of partial results generated by the plurality of distributed computing devices. The first computing device iteratively executes a distributed average consensus (DAC) process. At each iteration, the first computing device transmits the first partial result to a second computing device, receives a second partial result generated by the second computing device, and updates the first partial result by computing an average of the first and second partial results. In response to determining that respective partial results of the plurality of distributed computing devices have reached a consensus value, the first computing device stops executing the DAC process, and generates a final result of the computing task based on the consensus value.

Distributed computing using distributed average consensus

A distributed computing device calculates word counts for each of a set of documents. The word counts are represented as values, each representing a number of times a corresponding word appears in one of the set of documents. The distributed computing device randomly samples the word counts to calculate sampled word counts. The distributed computing device and additional distributed computing devices iteratively execute a process to determine a consensus result for the sampled word counts based on the sampled word counts and additional sampled word counts calculated by the additional distributed computing devices. The distributed computing device determines a latent semantic index (LSI) subspace based on the consensus result for the sampled word count and reflecting contents of the set and additional sets of documents. The distributed computing device projects a document into the LSI subspace to determine the latent semantic content of the document.

Decentralized latent semantic index using distributed average consensus

One or more coordinating devices may be utilized to control high speed data transmission among a plurality of wireless devices utilizing 60 GHz for high speed data transmission. Control messages may be sent and/or received between each of the plurality of wireless devices and the one or more coordinating devices utilizing low rate control connections via available secondary physical layers. The secondary physical layers may comprise Bluetooth, 802.11, and/or UWB physical layers. The controlling may comprise time coordination, frequency coordination, and/or spatial coordination that may enable the wireless devices to align and/or position directional antenna that may be utilized to perform the 60 GHz high speed data transmission. The wireless devices may utilize the low rate control connections to communicate reporting messages to the one or more coordinating devices. The reporting information may enable the one or more coordinating devices to manage available resources in the plurality of wireless devices.

Method and system for low rate MAC/PHY for 60 GHz transmission

Aspects of a method and system for optimal beamforming in a wireless network are presented. Aspects of the system may include one or more processors for use in a requesting communication device wherein the one or more processors may be operable to request a transmission time slot allocation. A determination may be made by a coordinating communication device as whether to assign a sector transmission time slot and/or beamforming transmission time slot to the requesting communication device based on the transmission time slot allocation request. The one or more processors may be operable to receive the assigned sector transmission time slot and/or beamforming transmission time slot.

Method and system for optimal beamforming in wireless networks

Aspects of a method and system for Bluetooth 802.11 alternate MAC/PHY (AMP) transmit power control (TPC) may include one or more processors, receiver circuits and/or transmitter circuits that are operable to determine a maximum input level based on signals received via a Bluetooth basic rate (BR) connection and/or via a Bluetooth extended data rate (EDR) connection. The processors and/or circuits may be operable to determine a transmitted signal power level based on the determined maximum input level. The processors and/or circuits may be operable to transmit subsequent signals via a distinct Bluetooth connection based on the determined transmitted signal power level. The data rate for signal transmission via the distinct Bluetooth connection may exceed the data rate for signal transmission via the BR connection and the data rate for signal transmission via the EDR connection.

A technique to extend antenna coverage pattern of a planar antenna array. In one instance a reflector is disposed above the planar antenna array and in another instance a lens element is disposed above the planar antenna array. The reflection or refraction of RF signals allows antenna coverage pattern to be extended in a horizontal direction parallel to the planar surface of the antenna array and beyond a coverage pattern that is typically not available, without such reflection or refraction of the RF signal.

Platform enhancements for planar array antennas

Aspects of a method and system for dual mode operation in wireless networks are presented. Aspects of the system include a communicating device that selects an RF channel and a physical layer type. The communicating device may process signals received via the selected RF channel based on the selected physical layer type. The communicating device may determine whether a beacon frame has been detected base on the signals that were received via the selected RF channel and processed based on the selected physical layer type. When a frame is not detected, the communicating device may determine a signal energy level for the received signals. The communicating device may establish an association with an existing network based on detection of the beacon frame or the communicating device may transmit an originating beacon frame based on the determined signal energy level.

Method and system for dual mode operation in wireless networks

A single communication stack may be utilized to setup a data transmission session between wireless devices. A primary physical layer corresponding to the single communication stack may be utilized by the wireless devices to perform discovery, pairing, and security setup operations when setting the data transmission session. A secondary physical layer may be utilized to perform high speed data transmission. The secondary physical layer may be integrated or managed via the single communication stack corresponding to the primary physical layer, and applications running on top of the single communication stack may utilize the secondary physical layer transparently. A portion of the transmitted data may be multiplexed onto other secondary physical layers that may be available to the wireless devices. Alternatively, transmission of data may comprise switching among available secondary physical layers. The primary physical layer may be utilized during data transmission to continually monitor and/or manage the data transmission.

Method and system for utilizing a high frequency PHY layer for high speed data transmission between wireless devices

Aspects of a system for an ad hoc wireless network with master control of network parameters may include one or more circuits that enable generation of a beacon frame at a supervisory WLAN station wherein the generated beacon frame contains a supervisory role indication. The supervisory role indication enables the supervisory WLAN station to establish timing synchronization and network parameters that are utilized by a plurality of WLAN stations utilized for communicating within a wireless network. Aspects of the system may also include a WLAN station that enables communication via a wireless local area network by utilizing a timestamp value and network parameter values retrieved from a received beacon frame based on the presence of a supervisory role indication within the received beacon frame.

Method and system for an AD HOC wireless network with master control of network parameters

A wireless device comprising a single communication stack accessing a corresponding radio interface accessed via a corresponding physical layer, may utilize a plurality of communication sessions to perform a plurality of applications simultaneously. Two or more of the communication sessions may contemporaneously utilize different PHY and/or PHY/MAC layers pertaining to the same high speed data standard.

Method and system for multisession communication using multiple physical (PHY) layers

A wireless device may utilize a plurality of Bluetooth sessions to perform a plurality of applications simultaneously in said wireless device. A Bluetooth interface may be utilized to perform initial connectivity and/or control functionality associate with each of said plurality of Bluetooth sessions. The connectivity and/or control functionality may comprise discovery, pairing, and/or initial connection. Each of the plurality of Bluetooth sessions may comprise utilizing one or more of a plurality of high speed data standards to perform data transmission and/or reception. The plurality of high speed data standard may comprise WLAN, ultra-wideband (UWB), and/or 60 GHz PHY and/or PHY/MAC layers. Two or more of the plurality of Bluetooth sessions may contemporaneously utilize different PHY and/or PHY/MAC layers pertaining to the same high speed data standard. Performing each of the plurality of applications may comprise utilizing one or more of the plurality of Bluetooth sessions.
