Airborne LiDAR bathymetry systems and methods of use are provided. The airborne LiDAR bathymetry system can collect topographic data and bathymetric data at high altitudes. The airborne LiDAR bathymetry system has a receiver system, a detector system, and a laser transmission system.

Airborne topo-bathy lidar system and methods thereof

An optical targeting device comprised of a support body, an imaging waveguide joined to and in a position relative to the support body, and a light source mounted on the support body. The imaging waveguide is comprised of an input diffractive optic, and an output diffractive optic. The light source is located to direct a targeting light beam to the input diffractive optic of the imaging waveguide. In operation of the optical targeting device, the imaging waveguide simultaneously transmits incoming light from a scene viewable by a user of the device through the light transmissive body, and propagates the targeting light beam from the input diffractive optic laterally through the light transmissive body and directs the targeting light beam outwardly from the output diffractive optic, thereby rendering the targeting light beam as a point of light superimposed within the scene viewable by the user.

Optical targeting device

A generally conical element is defined about a vertical axis and having a tip on the vertical axis, and a generally conical odd aspheric contour mirror surface that is defined upward from the tip relative to the vertical axis. Airborne topo-bathy LiDAR system and methods thereof

An optical device that creates separate images for different wavelength bands of light. The device comprises a light sensor, a first dichroic filter, and a first mirror. The light sensor comprises a first light sensing portion and a second light sensing portion. The first dichroic filter reflects a first portion of incident light of a first wavelength band from a source through an imaging lens with the imaging lens projecting a first image of the source onto the first light sensing portion of the light sensor; and the first dichroic filter transmits a second portion of incident light of a second wavelength band from the scene different from the first wavelength range. The first mirror is positioned to reflect the transmitted second portion of incident light through the imaging lens, the imaging lens projecting a second image of the source onto the second light sensing portion of the light sensor.

Method and apparatus for separate spectral imaging and sensing

A portable hand-held camera for imaging the fundus of an eye, the camera comprising a housing comprising an internal cavity terminating at a forward housing end, a forward lens, and a light source configured to direct light from locations distributed around the perimeter of the forward lens forwardly out of the housing end. In other embodiment, a portable hand-held camera for imaging the fundus of an eye includes optics configured to focus light reflected back from the fundus onto an image receptor, with the optics being capable of varying the field of view among differing portions of the fundus. Methods to ensure unique image identification and storage are described.

Portable fundus camera

A refractive index sensor having one or more sources, an adaptive optical element or scanner, imaging optics, a sensing optic, and one or more detectors. The scanner impinges a signal from the source into the sensing optic and onto a sensor-sample interface at sequential angles of incidence. The detector response increases dramatically to signals reflected from the interface at corresponding sequential angles of reflection equal to or greater than a critical angle. The refractive index sensor also uses an input lens between the scanner and the sensing optic and uses an output lens between the sensing optic and the detector. A processor controls the sensor and can determine index of refraction of the fluid sample based on the detector response and scan rate. The sensor can be used in several operational environments from a laboratory to a downhole tool, such as a formation tester to determine properties in a borehole environment.

An optical probe for splitting a beam of light into multiple beams. The optical probe may comprise a first polarizing beam splitter having a first polarization axis, a second polarizing beam splitter having a second polarization axis orthogonal to the first polarization axis, a first half wave plate and a second half wave plate, and optionally a first birefringent phase plate, and a second birefringent phase plate. The first half wave plate may be located before first polarizing beam splitter, and the second half wave plate may be located after the first polarizing beam splitter, relative to the propagation of the light beam. The optical probe may further include a lens for collimating the four light beams. A profilometer includes the optical probe for splitting a beam of light into four light beams, and a scanner for traversing the optical probe over a surface of an element to be measured.

A camera for aerial photography includes a reference projector that projects collimated beams of light into the optical system entrance aperture which are imaged by an image recording device. The beams produce fiducial images present in every image captured by the imaging recording device. The fiducial images can be used to characterize the performance of the optical system and derive distortion correction coefficients. The distortion correction coefficients can be applied to a portion of an image, such as a group of pixels, or to the entire image, to thereby compensate for distortions in the optical system. In some embodiments, e.g., airborne cameras, the projector is rigidly coupled to an inertial measurement unit. The ability of the airborne camera to perform object geolocation from imagery is improved. The fiducial images enable optical system performance to be characterized and distortion correction coefficients to be obtained and thereby improve the accuracy of a ray angle calculation to the object of interest. Furthermore, the ray angle can be related to an inertial measurement system coordinate system using a direction cosine matrix.

Precision optical systems with performance characterization and uses thereof

An optical diffraction grating having a superior ultra-precise non-planar surface shape desired in extremely sensitive and complex optical imaging devices (e.g. spectrometers or hyperspectral imagers) is provided. The optical diffraction grating comprises a substrate having a plurality of substantially parallel grooves, wherein each of the grooves includes a plurality of substantially parallel sub-grooves. A non-planar substrate surface shape is defined by a combination of the grooves. A groove profile is defined by a combination of the sub-grooves within a corresponding one of the grooves. In a preferred method of manufacturing the optical diffraction grating, a rotating spindle technique would be employed.

A multiplexing spectrometer measures at least one parameter, such as temperature, pressure or stress. The system multiplexes the outputs of Bragg stack sensors deposited at the distant ends of optical fibers brought in contact or in close proximity to objects. The spectrometer detects the peaks of the optical signals returned from the Bragg stacks and converts them into corresponding values of the parameters of interest. The spectrometer includes an optical system that comprises an entrance slit, a diffraction grating as a light dispersing means. Multiplexing occurs on a two-dimensional solid state matrix photo detector detects and converts the light signals returned from the Bragg stack sensing elements into corresponding electrical signals, and a built-in look-up table to provides the values of the parameters of interest that correspond the spectral characteristics of the returned light signals.

Multiplexing spectrometer

An optical system for a digital light projection system is provided. The optical system comprises a plurality of LED arrays, wherein each LED array comprises a plurality of LEDs. The optical system also comprises an optical concentrator element positioned substantially adjacent to each of the LED arrays, wherein each concentrator element reflects light emitted from the plurality of LEDs within the corresponding LED array so as to provide substantially uniform light at an output surface of each concentrator element. The optical system preferably further comprises an optical combiner element, wherein the output surface of each concentrator element is optically aligned with a corresponding side of the combiner element, and wherein the combiner element chromatically combines the substantially uniform light provided at the output surface of each concentrator element so as to form color-combined light at an output surface of the combiner element. In one embodiment, the combiner element comprises a first dichroic element and a second dichroic element, and wherein the first dichroic element and the second dichroic element are positioned substantially adjacent to each other and are angled with respect to each other so as to form a substantially V-shaped pattern.

An ultrathin optical panel, and a method of producing an ultrathin optical panel, are disclosed, including stacking a plurality of glass sheets, which sheets may be coated with a transparent cladding substance or may be uncoated, fastening together the plurality of stacked coated glass sheets using an epoxy or ultraviolet adhesive, applying uniform pressure to the stack, curing the stack, sawing the stack to form an inlet face on a side of the stack and an outlet face on an opposed side of the stack, bonding a coupler to the inlet face of the stack, and fastening the stack, having the coupler bonded thereto, within a rectangular housing having an open front which is aligned with the outlet face, the rectangular housing having therein a light generator which is optically aligned with the coupler. The light generator is preferably placed parallel to and proximate with the inlet face, thereby allowing for a reduction in the depth of the housing. An alternative to this type of light generator is an optical system for producing an accurate image on a highly tilted optical panel inlet face surface relative to the image path. The optical system comprises an image source, an anamorphic system/telescope for reducing anamorphic distortion of the image, and optionally a telecentric element for preventing keystone-type distortion of the image.
