The present invention provides an embossed multi-ply tissue product that is visually pleasing and has improved physical attributes. For example, the inventive multi-ply tissue products have reduced stiffness, such as a GM Flexural Rigidity less than about 600 mg*cm, improved absorbency, such as a Residual Water (W) value less than about 0.15 g, and improved wet resiliency, such as a wet elastic strain ratio greater than about 32 percent.

Embossed multi-ply tissue products

The multi-ply tissue products that are both durable and dispersible may be manufactured using a creping process that employs a non-crosslinked vinyl acetate-ethylene polymer as a creping agent. The products generally have a Slosh time less than 2 minutes, such as less than about 60 seconds, such as less than about 45 seconds. Surprisingly, the foregoing Slosh times are achieved despite the tissue products having relatively high cross-machine direction (CD) wet tensile strength, such as greater than about 100 g/3″. Typically, increasing wet tensile strength, particularly wet CD tensile strength, negatively effects dispersability and increases Slosh time. Despite this trend, the multi-ply tissue products have a relatively high degree of wet strength and good dispersability.

Durable and dispersible creped multi-ply tissue

Disclosed are non-treated, creped tissue webs, and tissue products produced therefrom, having low stiffness and surface lint. The inventive products may be produced by a print creping process adapted to dispose a non-crosslinked latex polymer on at least one of the outer surfaces of the tissue product. The non-crosslinked latex polymer creping composition does not negatively affect stiffness such that the products generally have a Stiffness Index less than about 5.0, such as from about 2.5 to about 5.0.

Multi-ply tissue product

The creped multi-ply tissue products are durable, smooth and have low levels of Slough. In certain instances, the creped multi-ply tissue products are produced using a creping composition comprising a non-crosslinked latex polymer. The creped multi-ply tissue products may have a geometric mean tensile (GMT) from about 700 to about 1,500 g/3″, a basis weight from about 45 to about 60 gsm and a Slough less than about 2.00 mg, such as from about 0.10 to about 2.00 mg. The inventive tissue products also have good durability, such as a Durability Index from about 10.0 to about 20.0, smooth surfaces, such as a TS750 value from about 15.0 to 40.0 and low stiffness, such as a Stiffness Index less than about 10.0.

Creped multi-ply tissue product

Disclosed are multi-ply tissue products comprising a non-crosslinked binder that are durable and dispersible. The present invention discloses tissue products, specifically rolled paper towel products, such as one, two or three ply tissue products having a basis weight greater than about 35 gsm and a GMT greater than about 1,500 g/3&#x2033;. The products have a three-dimensional surface, typically the air contacting surface, comprising substantially continuous machine direction (MD) oriented elements, discrete cross-machine direction (CD) oriented elements and discrete MD oriented valleys having valley sidewalls formed by the MD oriented elements and valley endwalls formed by the CD oriented elements. The discrete valleys generally have a length greater than about 10.0 mm. The CD oriented elements comprise a relatively small percentage of the tissue surface area, such as less than about 15 percent, yet the tissue products display good anti-nesting properties when spirally wound into rolls, such as a Roll Structure greater than about 1.75.

The invention provides calendered tissue webs and products produced by passing a tissue web through a calender nip created by a patterned roll having a first pattern and a second pattern thereon and a substantially smooth roll. As the web is transported through the nip it is subjected to variable calender loads that impart variable cross-machine (CD) direction properties to the resulting calendered web. CD properties that may be varied according to the present invention include sheet caliper, sheet bulk and surface smoothness. The variable CD property may be preserved in the web as it is further converted, such as winding about a core, resulting in tissue products having physical properties that vary along at least one dimension of the product.
