Multi-mode communication devices capable of wLAN and WAN wireless network communication modes and/or wired modes can be configured to communicate for backend services (e.g. Web Services, database, events) via a network gateway to operate in response to available modes. For example, for some activities (e.g. notification messages), the devices may be configured to communication in any available mode (WAN or wLAN) while for other activities (e.g. high bandwidth communications), the devices may be restricted to one mode only (e.g. wLAN). Component applications for execution by the devices can specify message delivery properties to indicate the mode(s) to may used for a particular message. Runtime mode information may be provided and maintained automatically by a communications subsystem interface for determining mode availability. A programming tool and gateway are also described.

Device for communicating in multiple modes using multi-mode applications

A system, device and method for managing interactive content on a computing device are provided. In an embodiment, a computing device in the form of a portable computing device is configured to execute a web-browser application and a parser application. The web-browser application is configured to obtain and display a web page. The parser application is configured to detect an interactive element in the web page, the interactive element initiating execution of an application when activated. The parser application is further configured to populate the web page with a visual identifier indicating the application initiated by activation of the interactive element.

Multi-mode communication devices capable of multiple wireless and/or wired network communication modes can be configured to communicate for backend services (e.g. Web Services, database, events) via a network gateway to operate in response to available modes. A user equipment (UE) is disclosed comprising an agent configured to monitor and report UE configuration and capability information, wherein the UE is further configured to provide the UE configuration and capability information, and subsequently receive an application based on the configuration and capability information. Also disclosed is a network comprising a provisioning server configured to receive UE configuration and capability information, and subsequently provide an application based on the UE configuration and capability information. Also disclosed is a method comprising providing UE configuration and capability information from a UE, and receiving an application at the UE based on the configuration and capability information. Also disclosed is a method comprising receiving UE configuration and capability information at a provisioning server, and providing an application from the provisioning server based on the UE configuration and capability information.

Provisioning based on application and device capability

A device-based network service provisioning model is provided in which a wireless device facilitates a subscriber to provide provisioning information for activating carrier, value-added or other service provider services automatically. The model facilitates subscriber control while balancing service provider needs. Provisioning components may be provided to a device during a provisioning session to maintain service provider branding, look and feel and other control over a subscriber's experience. Provisioning components may be dynamically generated to capture current services, subscriber plans and particular device criteria. In one embodiment, service provider-side components define a service-oriented interface (e.g. Web services) for receiving a subscriber's provisioning information. Device-side components define an interface to request and receive the provisioning components and to provide provisioning information to the service-oriented interface. A gateway may be interposed between the device and service-oriented interface to provide the provisioning components to the wireless device and proxy provisioning session communications.

Device-based network service provisioning

A method for provisioning wireless devices for use of services offered by a service provider on a wireless network, comprising: receiving at a provisioning system from a wireless device a wireless device identifier, the wireless device having a first subset of the services; identifying from the wireless device identifier a subscriber associated with the wireless device, the subscriber having a second subset of the services; and, if the first and second subsets conflict, enabling none, one, or both of the first and second subsets of services in accordance with conflict resolution information for the service provider.

Systems and methods are provided for triggering a provisioning event in a service provider using a provisioning request message generated by an external system. A provisioning system may be used to receive the provisioning request message from the external system and transmit information in the provisioning request message to the service provider to trigger the provisioning event. The provisioning request message may have a data structure that includes a header section and a body section. The body section may contain a provisioning entity section that includes information identifying an entity to which the provisioning event pertains, wherein the provisioning entity section includes one or more attributes defined by the external system.

In accordance with the teachings described herein, systems and methods are provided for integrating a plurality of electronic mail (email) accounts. A plurality of email services may be used to send and receive electronic messages over a wide area network, one of the email services being a preferred email service and another of the email services being a secondary email service. An email integration service may be used that is coupled to the wide area network and that is independent of the plurality of email services. The email integration service may be operable to receive account information regarding the preferred email service and the secondary email service and use the account information to configure a means for forwarding electronic messages from the preferred email service to the secondary email service.

A method is disclosed for facilitating development of an application having access to a database data-source. The method comprises the following steps. At least one subroutine that is a candidate for potentially including hidden information is identified. A definition document for the subroutine is generated using information available from its available schema metadata. The subroutine is executed via the database data-source. A result set of the executed subroutine is analysed for exposing any hidden information. The analysis is used to supplement the definition document with additional schema information to describe a structure of the exposed information. The definition document can then be used in developing the application. A development tool and computer readable medium configured to implement the method are also disclosed.
