Various exemplary embodiments are directed to methods including obtaining an input sample magnitude, filtering the obtained input sample magnitude, generating a sample-to-sample difference based on the filtered input sample magnitude, and engaging an actuator in accordance with a determination that the sample-to-sample difference satisfies a rate threshold. In addition, various exemplary embodiments are directed to devices including a processor, a control sensor operatively coupled to the processor and operable to obtain an input sample magnitude, an input filter operatively coupled to the processor and operable to filter the at least one obtained input magnitude sample, a non-transitory computer-readable medium operatively coupled to the processor and including a rate engine operable to generate a sample-to-sample difference based on the filtered input sample magnitude, and to generate a determination that the sample-to-sample difference satisfies a rate threshold, and a control actuator operatively coupled to the processor and operable to engage an operation mechanism in accordance with the determination that the sample-to-sample difference satisfies a rate threshold.

Systems and methods for determining a likelihood of an occurrence of an anomaly in a sensor are described. A processor can receive a first measurement of a first capacitance change between a first port and a second port of a device connected to the sensor. The first measurement can be obtained in response to the first port being configured to perform a first function, and in response to the second port being configured to perform a second function. The processor can receive a second measurement of a second capacitance change between the first and second ports. The second measurement can be obtained in response to the first port being configured to perform the second function, and in response to the second port being configured to perform the first function. The processor can determine the likelihood of the occurrence of the anomaly based on the first and second measurements.

A vehicle power system includes a controller that reduces a voltage setpoint of an alternator by a predetermined amount in response to a magnitude of electric charge provided by the alternator during a predetermined time period exceeding a first threshold and a rate of change of power output by the alternator exceeding a second threshold during the time period. Methods and systems are provided for adjusting vehicle grille shutters based on a direction of motion of the grille shutters. In one example, a method includes adjusting a motor coupled to the grille shutters based on the direction of motion of the grille shutters, a desired opening of the grille shutters, and vehicle speed. Further, the method may include determining the direction of motion of the grille shutters based on a desired motor position relative to an actual motor position.

A method is provided for determining a lower voltage set-point, an upper voltage set-point, a temperature-dependent upper current set-point, a time limit value, and a lower current hysteresis threshold set-point based on a measured temperature of a battery. A charge current from a battery charging circuit is provided. If a charge voltage is above the lower voltage set-point and below the upper voltage set-point and the charge current exceeds the temperature-dependent upper current set-point, timer is started. If the timer reaches a time limit value while the charge current exceeds the temperature-dependent upper current set-point and the charge voltage is between the lower voltage set-point and the upper voltage set-point, the charge current is reduced.

A vehicle system includes a user interface, an autonomous mode controller, and a processor. The autonomous mode controller controls a host vehicle in a partially autonomous mode. The processor receives a first user input requesting the partially autonomous mode and command the user interface to present a tutorial associated with the partially autonomous mode. The processor receives a second user input indicating that a driver completed the tutorial and activates the partially autonomous mode in response to receiving the second user input.

A battery diagnostic tool is provided to receive temperature information on the vehicle battery during a vehicle battery charging operation. In one example, filtering the oil dilution amount may include decreasing a sensitivity of filtering at lower oil dilution below a threshold; otherwise, increasing the sensitivity of filtering. The sensitivity of the filtering may be decreased by implementing a larger time constant, while the sensitivity of the filtering may be increased by implementing a smaller time constant.

Methods and systems are provided for adjusting vehicle grille shutters based on engine coolant temperature. In one example, a method includes adjusting grille shutters based on engine coolant temperature and additional engine operating conditions when engine coolant temperature is below a threshold and adjusting the grille shutters base on the engine coolant temperature only when the engine coolant temperature is above the threshold. Further, the method may include recalibrating a position of the grille shutters based on a grille shutter position error.
