An erosion testing assembly adapted to test an abradable surface of a component, the testing assembly including: a shroud attachable to the component; the shroud being adapted to receive an erosion gun. The present disclosure also relates to a method of testing an abradable surface of a component, wherein the method includes: attaching a shroud to the component; connecting an erosion gun to the shroud; and testing the abradable surface with the erosion gun. The present disclosure may also relate to a method of testing an abradable surface of a component, wherein the method includes: using the component; and testing a portion of the abradable surface with an erosion gun after use of the component.

Erosion testing assembly

An apparatus () to test the adhesion strength and/or cohesive strength of a coating () comprises a first member () having an aperture () and a second member () locatable in the aperture () in the first member (). A temperature sensor () is arranged to measure the temperature of the first member (). A third member () and a fourth member () are mounted on the first member (). The third member () has a first strain gauge () to measure the strain in a first direction and the fourth member () has a second strain gauge () to measure the strain in a second direction perpendicular to the first direction. A device () is arranged to apply a tensile load to move the second member () from a first position where the second member () is located in the aperture () in the first member () and the surfaces () of the first and second members () are substantially flush to a second position where the surfaces () of the first and second members () are not flush and a load sensor () is arranged to measure the adhesive strength and/or cohesive strength of a coating () deposited on the surfaces () of the first and second members ().

Apparatus and a method of testing the adhesion strength and/or cohesive strength of a coating

A seal () between a compressor rotor blade () and compressor casing () comprises an abradable structure () on the compressor casing (). The abradable structure () comprises a metallic foam () having pores (). The metallic foam () has a first a region () and a second region (). The first region () of the metallic foam () is arranged adjacent to the compressor casing () and the second region () of the metallic foam () is spaced from the compressor casing () by the first region () of the metallic foam (). The pores () of the second region () of the metallic foam () contain an abradable material () and the pores () of the first region () of the metallic foam () do not contain an abradable material.
