A photoreactor for disinfecting water includes at least one wall defining a chamber configured to contain fluid. The reactor also includes an inlet through which water flows into the chamber, and an outlet through which water exits the chamber. The reactor also includes a UVC LED. The LED is configured to power on for an active duration, and power off for an inactive duration. The active duration and the inactive duration define a period. The reactor also includes a controller configured to set a duty cycle for the period, where the duty cycle is a ratio of the active duration to the period. The duty cycle is less than or equal to about 1:100.

Periodic UVC dosing

A method of fermenting mycelium composite materials wherein layers of fermentable material are stacked in alteration with ventilation layers with air being passed through the ventilation layers to remove heat and gas generated in the layers of fermentable material during fermentation thereof. The obtained composite materials may be formed into cohesive flat boards, such as are used in the manufacture of insulation or furniture.

Method of fermenting mycelium composite material

The mat is formed of a saprophytic fungal strain and/or budding yeast, and a mass of particles wherein the fungus is characterized in producing an enzyme capable of breaking down polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. In a second embodiment, a mass of pellets is made from the mat for use in absorbing liquid animal waste.
