Plug connector and electrical connector assembly

A connector assembly comprising: a first connector having a housing on which an elastic locking piece is suspended; a second connector having a housing on which a locking member mating with the elastic locking piece is formed so as to lock the first and second connectors together when the first and second connectors are mated together; and a connector position assurance device having a first stopper and a second stopper behind the first stopper. A first mating stopper is formed on the elastic locking piece, and a second mating stopper is formed on the housing of the first connector. The connector position assurance device only can be inserted into a first position under the elastic locking piece of the first connector when the first and second connectors are separate from each other. At the first position, the first stopper of the connector position assurance device is abutted against the first mating stopper of the first connector to prevent the connector position assurance device from being further pushed forward, and at the first position, the second stopper of the connector position assurance device is abutted against the second mating stopper of the first connector to prevent the connector position assurance device from being pulled out backward.

An electrical connector is provided for mating with a mating connector. The electrical connector includes a housing and an electrical contact held by the housing. The housing has a mating end that faces the mating connector when the electrical connector is mated with the mating connector. The housing includes a body having a retaining flange. A locking collar is movably mounted on the body of the housing. The locking collar includes a locking element and an inwardly directed shoulder having an opening extending therethrough. The locking element is configured to engage the mating connector to lock the electrical connector to the mating connector. The shoulder engages the retaining flange of the body when the locking collar is fully engaged with the mating connector. The retaining flange of the body is configured to engage the locking element of the locking collar to retain the locking collar on the body of the housing.

An electrical terminal block including a mating face and a loading surface that are spaced apart from each other along a longitudinal axis. The mating face extends along a lateral axis. The terminal block also includes first and second sidewalls that face in opposite directions and extend between the mating face and the loading surface. Each of the first and second sidewalls includes a wing member that projects therefrom along the lateral axis and a recess configured to receive a wing member from another terminal block. The wing members and the recesses have matching complementary cross-sections taken along the longitudinal axis such that the wing member on the first sidewall of one terminal block is slidably and securely received within the recess on the second sidewall of another terminal block.

The connector assembly includes a plug assembly that has a mating end configured to be inserted into the cavity of the mating connector. The connector assembly also includes a collar that surrounds the plug assembly. The connector assembly also includes a sleeve member that is positioned between the collar and the plug assembly. The sleeve member surrounds the plug assembly about the central axis and includes a plurality of fingers that extend toward the mating end. The sleeve member is stamped and formed from a common piece of sheet material. The fingers are biased away from the central axis in a flared arrangement when the collar is in the withdrawn position. The lingers press against the wall surface of the mating connector when the collar is moved from the withdrawn position to the locked position.
