A roof rail for mounting to a vehicle. The rail has an elongated base of plastic and a metal stay member. The stay member has a first surface oriented for mating with a vehicle roof and a second surface oriented for receiving a cross bar. The stay member is encapsulated by the plastic forming the elongated base. The first surface includes at least two openings configured for receiving a fastener. The second surface includes at least two passages configured for receiving a fastener. An elongated plastic cap element is also provided. The cap element has a first edge engaging the elongated base adjacent the first surface of the stay member and a second edge engaging the base adjacent the second surface of the stay member, but does not cover the second surface of the stay member.

Low profile roof rail

A heat staking method and apparatus is provided for use in deforming a heat-stake so that it becomes mechanically coupled to an encapsulate. The deformed portion of the heat-stake contacts a retention component that provides additional composition strength and fastening surface to the encapsulate.

Heat staking process with increased retention force

The invention is an apparatus for use with a vehicle having a tailgate. The apparatus has a frame hingedly mounted to an exterior of the tailgate with at least about 270&#xb0; of rotation relative to the tailgate. The apparatus has first and second arms pivotably mounted on opposite sides of the frame with at least about 90&#xb0; of rotation relative to the frame from a resting position, in which the arms are substantially parallel to the frame, to an extended position. First and second panels mount between the arms when the arms are extended, wherein the first panel is mounted to ends of the arms that are opposite the frame and the second panel is mounted to an underside of each of the arms.

Cargo bed extender

A roof rack having movable cross bars that have a low profile when aligned with the side bars, but are raised when generally perpendicular to the side bars. The height variation is achieved using ribs that are provided on a bottom side of the cross bars. When the cross bars are aligned with the side bars, the ribs fit into slots that are provided in the side bars. As a result, each cross bar has a very low profile with respect to the roof of the vehicle. When each cross bar is rotated to a position generally perpendicular to the side bars, the ribs within the cross bar are no longer aligned with the slots in the side bar. Instead, the ribs rest on an upper surface of the side bar, and thus, provide a significant gap between the cross bar and vehicle roof.

Roof rack cross bar rise up feature

The present invention is directed to a roof rack for mounting to a vehicle. The roof rack includes a rail secured between first and second stanchions. The first stanchion includes a cover and a base. The cover is releasably secured to the base by a plurality of fastener assemblies. One of the fastener assemblies is formed by a tongue of the base being disposed in a loop of the cover.

Roof rack cover attachment system and method

The invention is a ramp removably mounted to at least one sidewall of a cargo bed of a vehicle. The ramp can be removed to create a support bridge between the cargo bed and the ground. The cargo bed of the preferred embodiment has four sidewalls, and the ramp is mounted to one sidewall of the cargo bed, preferably by a hinge and locking mechanism. One of the sidewalls of the cargo bed is a tailgate having a groove for accepting a lip on the end of the ramp, while the opposite end of the ramp rests upon the ground. Then a motorcycle, ATV, tractor or other wheeled vehicle can be loaded or unloaded easily, and the ramps are readily available and securely stored.

Integrated loading ramp system

A fluid-dispensing nozzle assembly automatically pivotally adjusts within a defined range of motion, to consistently project a fluid toward a windshield for contact at a designated area thereof, regardless of the velocity of ambient air therepast. The nozzle assembly adjusts automatically without requiring electric motors or other energy input. The pivotally adjustable fluid-dispensing nozzle assembly includes a support member and a nozzle member which is pivotally attached to the support member. The nozzle member is provided with an air engaging surface, to enable air moving therepast to pivotally move the nozzle member, once the passing air achieves a predetermined flow rate.
