Protective eyewear is configured so that interior surfaces are associated with visual characteristics based on a use environment. Eyewear includes an interior surface having two or three horizontal zones that are assigned colors, gray levels, color coordinates, or other characteristics based on playing surface characteristics. Upper, middle, and lower interior portions can be associated with blue, green, and brown, respectively.

Spectrally balanced protective facemasks

Protective face masks and shields are configured so that interior surfaces are associated with visual characteristics based on a use environment. A face shield for a catcher's helmet includes an interior surface having three horizontal zones that are assigned colors, gray levels, color coordinates, or other characteristics based on playing surface characteristics. Upper, middle, and lower interior portions can be associated with blue, green, and brown, respectively.

An end configuration for a bat includes in one embodiment an end cap that has a base that is shaped to fit within the open end of the bat thereby to attach the end cap to the bat. The end cap also includes a convexly contoured end surface that is exposed when the end cap is attached to the bat. The end surface is roughened to reduce the aerodynamic drag when the bat is swung, thereby to increase the momentum of the bat for a given amount of force applied to swing the bat.

End configuration for a baseball bat

Eyewear having easily removable lenses is provided with a frame that defines a first lens receiving recess on one side of a lens opening and a second lens receiving recess on a second side of the lens opening. Each lens has a first tab portion which corresponds with the first recess and a second tab portion which corresponds to the second recess and is mounted by placing the first tab portion in the first recess and the second tab portion in the second recess. Engagement between the respective tab portions and recesses maintains the lenses in the mounted position. To more securely lock each lens in position, a pivot member having a locking tab can be pivoted into a locking position in which the locking tab engages the lens.
