A guide assembly including a guide nose, a body supporting the guide nose, and a torque limiter having a configuration to connect the guide nose and the body to a separate structure. A method for negotiating a restriction in a borehole including running a guide assembly into the borehole, encountering a restriction with the guide nose, limiting torque on the guide nose while encountering the restriction, longitudinally unloading the guide nose, incrementing an incrementing feature of the guide assembly to thereby rotate the guide nose. Guide assembly, method and system

A downhole tool including a mandrel having a first surface, and opposing second surface defining a flow path, a lock support zone provided one of the first and second surfaces, and a passage extending between the flow path and the first surface. A tool is supported on one of the first and second surfaces. A sleeve is selectively shiftable on the one of the first and second surfaces into engagement with the tool. The sleeve includes a first surface portion and a second surface portion. The second surface portion includes a latch section. A lock system is arranged between the first surface and the second surface portion in the lock support zone. The lock system includes a lock member selectively supporting a lock element in the latch section. The lock element constrains movement of the sleeve.

Interlock for a downhole tool

A tapered nose tool having a closed position and an open position, a degradable nose component, a releasable nose component, that is configured to rotate due to fluid passing therethrough and configured for retrievability of a portion of the bull nose tool.

Pass-through tapered nose tool

A wet connect system including a connector housing, a wet connector disposed in a pocket of the housing, a washout window in the pocket and a washout outlet in the pocket, the washout outlet fluidly connected to a washout pathway, the pathway at least partially within the housing.

A tapered nose tool includes a housing, a retrievable tapered nose disposed in the housing and retrievable from the housing, and a mechanically shiftable sleeve. The mechanically shiftable sleeve is shiftable with a shifting profile disposed in the housing. The sleeve anchors the nose in the housing in a first position and releases the nose from the housing in a second position.

An apparatus for generating power includes a fluid chamber configured to receive borehole fluid, one or more conductive coils surrounding the fluid chamber, a reciprocating magnetic shuttle disposed in the fluid chamber and dividing the fluid chamber into a first volume and a second volume, a first conduit connected to the first volume, and a second conduit connected to the second volume, the first conduit and the second conduit extending from a tubular conduit to an annulus. The apparatus includes a switching assembly configured to alternate between a first operating state where the first volume is in fluid communication with the annulus and a second operating state where the first volume is in fluid communication with the tubular conduit, to alternate a direction of differential pressure between the first volume and the second volume and cause the magnetic shuttle to move in a reciprocating motion and generate an electric current.

Power generation using pressure differential between a tubular and a borehole annulus

An apparatus for generating electrical power includes at least one power generation assembly having a housing including a fluid chamber, one or more conductive coils surrounding the fluid chamber, a reciprocating magnetic shuttle dividing the fluid chamber into a first volume and a second volume. The apparatus also includes at least one switching assembly configured to alternate between a first operating state where the first volume is in fluid communication with a first fluid pressure source, and a second operating state where the first volume is in fluid communication with a second fluid pressure source. The switching assembly is configured to alternate between the first operating state and the second operating state to alternate a direction of differential pressure between the first volume and the second volume and cause the magnetic shuttle to move in a reciprocating motion and generate an electric current in the one or more conductive coils.

Downhole power generation using pressure differential

A BHA features an MWD tool connected to a running tool supporting a whipstock that is connected to an open hole anchor. The anchor is flow set and after the anchor is set the running tool collets release from the whipstock to allow cement to be pumped through the anchor to hold the set position. The collets are released from the whipstock also with flow and after the anchor has been set. One way is to use nozzles in series. Another is to run in with a ball on the anchor seat, set the anchor and blow out the ball seat so flow can again be used to release the running tool collets. Another is suspending a ball above the anchor seat, releasing the ball with pressure cycle, open another flow passage to allow collet release of the whipstock. Finally, pressure can be used to release the running tool collets.

A method for moving a component in a downhole environment including disposing an electrohydraulic arrangement having a spark gap device and an energy source electrically connected to the spark gap device operably proximate a component, actuating the spark gap device, generating a pressure wave with the spark gap device, and moving the component with the pressure wave. A downhole system including a borehole, a component moved within the borehole by an electrohydraulic arrangement.

Electrohydraulic movement of downhole components and method

An arrangement for accelerating a workpiece including a system inductor configured to be supplied a current, a workpiece positioned magnetically proximate to the system inductor, a workpiece inductor associated with the workpiece and configured to magnetically interact with the system inductor. A method for moving a workpiece in a magnetic pressure arrangement comprising increasing inductance of a workpiece subsystem of the arrangement by disposing a workpiece inductor at the workpiece. A method for moving a workpiece in a magnetic pressure system comprising tuning one or more of a resistor, capacitor or inductor of the system to adjust a phase angle of a magnetic pressure produced in the system.

Magnetic pulse actuation arrangement for downhole tools and method

Ratchet locking segments permit one direction relative movement and then prevent reverse movement to hold a set position of a tool. The segments are axially supported in a surrounding housing using an exterior profile on each segment meshing with a conforming profile on the outer housing. The meshing is loose to allow the segments the ability to move radially while supported axially. Biasing of opposed ratcheting segments toward each other is provided by a spring or springs at opposed axial ends of each segment or within the exterior profile between the axial ends. The end biasing can be done with coiled springs or bent tabs that store potential energy when assembled or with wave springs between the segment outer profile and a surrounding outer housing.

An apparatus for temporarily connecting a first tool part to a second tool part of a tool includes a plurality of frangible members connecting the first tool part to the second tool part. The frangible members break only after being subjected to a predetermined applied force. The frangible members cooperate to differentially resist loading applied to the tool.

Actuating force control for downhole tools

A magnetic pulse actuation arrangement configured for use in a downhole system, the arrangement including: a workpiece; a layer placed on a portion of the workpiece, the layer having a different magnetic permeability than the workpiece; and, an inductor including a coil and configured to deliver a magnetic pulse to the workpiece to urge the workpiece in a direction, the layer facing the coil.

A sealing assembly configured to seal within an annulus, the sealing assembly including a support body including a backing ring having a substantially wavy sectional shape, and a plurality of ribs extending radially outwardly from the backing ring; and, a sealing member supported on the support body, the sealing member including a radially exterior sealing component, at least a portion of the radially exterior sealing component disposed between adjacent ribs on a radial exterior surface of the hacking ring, and, a radially interior sealing component disposed on a radial interior surface of the backing portion.
