A needle hub () for a pen needle is provided with an enlarged surface for contact with the skin of a patient. The enlarged surface is provided with a surface having a dimension and shape to enable a needle or cannula to penetrate the skin to a desired depth and permit substantially the entire exposed length of the needle or cannula to penetrate the skin to the desired depth. The surface of the needle hub can be formed by an inner cone shaped member () forming a first contact surface with a surface area of about 1-5 mmand an outer ring () at a peripheral edge forming a second contact surface with a combined surface area of about 15 to 50 mm.

Pen needle hub injection depth optimization

A medical device () includes an insulin pen (), a pen needle () and a force sensor (). The device also includes a microprocessor () to receive a signal from the force sensor (). Audible and/or visual indicators () provide feedback to a user to encourage proper injection technique. The device may also include an adaptor assembly comprising a sensor housing () and a first sensor () within the sensor housing, and a transfer needle assembly (), the transfer needle assembly providing a connection () for a pen needle, and providing a fluid conduit between the pen needle () and the insulin pen (). System and method for detecting applied force during injection

A needle-bearing hub for a pen needle is provided with a distal patient-facing side having an enlarged surface for contact with the subject's skin. The enlarged surface is provided with a radius of curvature that increases the likelihood that the needle reaches full injection depth when an injection is performed at an inclined angle with respect to the surface of the skin and with to the desired depth less discomfort to the patient.

A needle hub assembly for a pen needle includes a needle hub, an inner shield and an outer cover. The open end of the outer cover is closed by a removable seal to access the needle hub. The needle hub has a body with a shoulder and a tower extending from the body for supporting a cannula. The inner shield fits over the tower and the cannula and includes a flange that has an outer dimension complementing the outer dimension of the needle hub and contacts the shoulder of the needle hub in the assembled condition. The outer cover encloses the needle hub and the inner shield and includes a stop member on an inner surface that contacts the flange of the inner shield to capture the inner shield between the shoulder of the needle hub and the outer cover.

Pen needle assembly

A medical fluid communication system is disclosed comprising a pump controller and a fluid detector. The fluid detector detects characteristics of the fluid and provides fluid measurements to the pump controller, which detects if the fluid is flowing in the medication delivery system. In the event fluid is not flowing due to an occlusion, the pump controller may attempt to resolve the occlusion or may provide a warning to a user that an occlusion is occurring.

Pen needle hub

A method for obtaining data using an implantable sensor unit in a body of a patient includes: implanting the sensor unit in the body; conducting an imaging procedure on the body such that the sensor unit in the body serves as a fiducial marker; detecting a parameter using the sensor unit in the body; and transmitting data associated with the detected parameter from the sensor unit to a remote receiver unit.
