An example method comprises establishing, via a first data communication interface of a first computing device, a physical connection to between the first computing device and a second computing device. The method also includes receiving, at the first computing device, input data via a second data communication interface of the first computing device. The method further includes controlling an operation at the first computing device based on the input data when the input data is received prior to establishing the connection. The method further includes routing the input data to the second computing device via an input data switch of the first computing device when the input data is received after establishing the connection.

In example implementations, an apparatus for detecting hardware components is provided. The apparatus includes a multipurpose integrated circuit comprising an input pin, a hardware component coupled to the input pin and a two-way communication bus coupled to the multipurpose integrated circuit. The multipurpose integrated circuit is to receive an interrogation signal from a processor for the hardware component coupled to the pin via the two-way communication bus. A response signal that indicates that the hardware component is detected on the pin is generated in response to the interrogation signal. The response signal is then transmitted to the processor over the two-way communication bus.

A first controller can provide system state information and a second controller can receive the system state information. The second controller can be programmed to control the state of a component. The state of the component can be based on information programmed in the second controller and the system state information. The component can include an off state and an operating state indicated by a signal from the second controller.

A computing system can include a monitor () to estimate a temperature of a storage device (). The monitor estimates the temperature from an activity indicating signal of the storage device. A cooling device controller () can be connected to the monitor. The cooling device controller can control the output of a cooling device ().

In one embodiment, a computer system comprises one or more processors, a circuit board assembly having at least one SATA port, a general purpose input/output port proximate the SATA port, signal generating logic to generate a signal when the general purpose input/output port is coupled to a connector, and a memory module communicatively connected to the one or more processors and comprising logic instructions stored in a computer readable medium which, when executed on the one or more processors, configure the one or more processors to configure the SATA port according to the signal generated by the signal generating circuitry.

An aperture is cut out of the printed circuit board between the temperature sensitive device and a heat generating device to act as an insulator for the temperature sensitive device.

More specifically, to the muting control of the rear and front panel head phone/line out and microphone connectors for the audio subsystem of a standard PC system. The present invention implements muting on the headphoneline-out jacks while allowing the Front Audio Board to be optional without the need for jumpers.
