A turbine nozzle assembly for use in a turbine engine is provided. The assembly includes an inner barrel and a turbine nozzle support ring. The inner barrel has a forward end and an aft end. The turbine nozzle support ring includes an annular body that defines a forward end, an opposite aft end, an inner surface, and an opposite outer portion. The forward end of the annular body is coupled to the aft end of the inner barrel. The annular body includes a first arcuate segment and a second arcuate segment removably coupled to the first arcuate segment. The first arcuate segment has a first arcuate length and the second arcuate segment has a second arcuate length. The second arcuate length is shorter than the first arcuate length.

Turbine nozzle assembly

The present application provides an inducer seal configured to provide a flow of air to a rotor shaft within a turbine of a gas turbine engine. The inducer seal includes a ring plate having an outer surface with a circumferential channel and an inner surface having an abradable seal. A number of inducer slots are positioned in the ring plate that extend from the outer surface to the inner surface such that the flow of air may pass therethrough in a tangential direction relative to rotation of the rotor shaft to cool the rotor shaft.

A turbine casing includes at least one shell adapted to enclose one or more turbine stages in a gas turbine engine; an air inlet in the at least one shell; a flow sleeve secured to an inside surface of the at least one shell, the flow sleeve comprising at least two arcuate segments. Each arcuate segment includes an arcuate base, a pair of sidewalls extending radially outwardly of the base thereby forming a circumferentially-extending flow channel defined by the base, the sidewalls and the inside surface. The air inlet is aligned with the flow channel and the sleeve is configured to distribute air flowing in the channel into spaces proximate the one or more turbine stages in circumferential, radial and axial directions, including along the inside surface of the at least one shell.

A gas turbine engine that includes: a flowpath defined through one of a compressor and a turbine; an inner casing defining an axially tilted outboard boundary of the flowpath, which, relative to the axial tilt, defines a converging direction in which the flowpath converges and a diverging direction in which the flowpath diverges; a row of rotor blades having outer tips that oppose the outboard boundary across a gap clearance defined therebetween; an outer casing concentrically arranged about the inner casing so to form an annulus therebetween; and a connection assembly that slidably connects the inner casing to the outer casing and includes a biasing means for axially preloading the inner casing in the converging direction.

Systems relating to axial positioning turbine casings and blade tip clearance in gas turbine engines

A method and system adapted for removing one or more shells from an assembly of multiple annular shells, for example, turbine shells of a gas turbine engine. The method includes removing an upper shell positioned in an upper position relative to a lower shell of the assembly of multiple annular shells, and then positioning and securing a counterweight in the upper position and securing the counterweight to the lower shell as a replacement for the upper shell in the upper position. The counterweight and the lower shell are then rotated in unison until the lower shell is in the upper position and the counterweight is in a lower position previously occupied by the lower shell. Thereafter, the lower shell can be removed from the assembly.

Method and system for assembling and disassembling turbomachines

A casing includes an inner shell and an outer shell that surrounds the inner shell and comprises a plurality of inflection points. An annular flange is between the inner shell and the outer shell, and a plurality of joints attach the inner shell to the annular flange. A connector is between the annular flange and the outer shell at each of the plurality of inflection points. A method for assembling a casing includes joining a plurality of curved sections to one another to generally define an arcuate inner shell and surrounding the arcuate inner shell with an outer shell. The method further includes attaching the arcuate inner shell to an annular flange at first attachment points and connecting the annular flange to the outer shell at second attachment points spaced approximately equidistantly from the first attachment points.

Apparatus and method for aligning a turbine casing

The turbine casing as described herein may include a first section flange, a second section flange, the first section flange and the second section flange meeting at a joint, and a heat sink positioned about the joint.

A method and apparatus for controlling distortion in the casing of a gas turbine are disclosed. The method uses a split in the flange ID underneath 'false' flanges to tune the hoop stiffness of the casing to match the stiffness and behavior of the bolted joint. By matching the hoop carrying capability and load path of the split-line flange, as well as the thermal mass effect, the distortion can be channeled to a higher order distortion mode that can evenly distribute the deflection and approach a pure circular form.
