An apparatus and method that form closed-loop system(s) between a downhole system that includes an RSS and a surface control system, to improve stability and performance assurance of the RSS. The apparatus and method account for the actual downhole conditions experienced by the RSS, the actual positioning of the RSS, and historical performance of the surface systems such as the mud pump system, the rotary drive system, and the draw works. These closed-loop systems generate and optimize parameters or target outputs, instructions to surface systems, and instructions for the RSS itself.

Method and apparatus for controlling a rotary steerable system using closed-loop system(s)

Systems and methods of documenting a geosteering process include obtaining measured subterranean formation information while drilling and generating a proposed modification to a well plan based on the obtained information. Information relating to the proposed modification to the well plan may be stored in a drilling control system, and the drilling control system may generate and output a data log including information relating to the proposed modification to the well plan and performance indicators on a stand by stand basis.

Geosteering process documenting system and methods

A method of modifying a slide drill segment while implementing the slide drill segment includes receiving downhole data from a BHA during slide drilling of a slide drill segment. The method also includes calculating, based on the downhole data, a build rate and altering, while performing the slide drill segment, sliding instructions based on the build rate and the downhole data. The method also includes implementing the altered sliding instructions.

Real-time modification of a slide drilling segment based on continuous downhole data

An apparatus and method of automatically altering proposed sliding instructions to comply with operating parameters is described. The method includes determining, by a surface steerable system ('SSS') and based on drilling operation information, a location of a BHA; determining, by the SSS and using the location of the BHA, a projected location of the BHA at a projected distance; determining if the projected location is within a location-tolerance window ('LTW') associated with the projected distance; creating, in response to the projected location not being within the LTW, proposed steering instructions that result in a proposed, projected BHA location being within the LTW that is associated with the projected distance; determining whether the proposed instructions comply with the operating parameters comprising a maximum slide distance; and altering, by the SSS, when the proposed steering instructions do not comply with the operating parameters, the proposed steering instructions to comply with operating parameters.

Automated steering using operating constraints

A method, apparatus, and system according to which a drilling engine includes a template having a plurality of data fields outlining operational steps and parameters to perform a drilling process, the data fields having a plurality of recipe settings input therein to facilitate performance of the drilling process. A computer system communicates with the drilling engine and an operational equipment engine, and is configured to send a first control signal, based on the template and the recipe settings, to the operational equipment engine to cause the operational equipment engine to perform the drilling process to drill a first wellbore segment. A sensor engine is configured to monitor a key performance indicator ('KPI') of the operational equipment engine during the performance of the drilling process. In some embodiments, the drilling engine includes a recipe optimization module configured to modify, based on the monitored KPI, at least one of the recipe settings.

Apparatus, systems, and methods for slide drilling optimization based on stand-by-stand performance measurements

A method of drilling a first wellbore in an oilfield where an offset wellbore has been formed, the method including executing, using a computing system, at least a portion of a first set of instructions based on a well plan relating to the first wellbore; receiving, by the computing system, after the execution of at least the portion of the first set of instructions, offset drilling data associated with the drilling of the offset wellbore; generating, using the computing system, a second set of instructions based on the offset drilling data; wherein the second set of instructions is based on the well plan relating to the first wellbore; and wherein the second set of instructions is different from the first set of instructions; requesting confirmation to execute the second set of instructions; and executing the second set of instructions after receipt of confirmation to execute the second set of instructions.
