A process for sulfuric acid catalyzed alkylation involving the use of surfactants which form bi-continuous micro-emulsions with the sulfuric acid and the hydrocarbon is described. The bi-continuous phase facilitates and improves the sulfuric acid catalyzed alkylation reactions. The concentration of the surfactant is selected based on the type of olefin feed. Easy to alkylate feeds, such as 2-butene, use lower concentrations of surfactant, while feeds which are harder to alkylate, such as propene or isobutene, use higher concentrations of the surfactant. In addition, increasing the concentration of sulfuric acid when a surfactant is included resulted in higher calculated RON. The use of a surfactant and a high concentration of sulfuric acid can provide a calculated RON over 100 and close to theoretical yields.

Toluene disproportionation processes utilizing treated UZM-39 zeolites are described. The processes produce effluent streams comprising para-xylene and benzene. The molar ratio of benzene to xylene (Bz/X) in the effluent stream can be in a range of about 1.00 to about 1.14, the molar ratio of para-xylene to xylene (pX/X) in the effluent stream can be in a range of about 0.80 to about 1.0, and the conversion of toluene can be about 20% to about 40%.

Toluene disproportionation processes utilizing treated UZM-44 zeolites are described. The processes produce effluent streams comprising para-xylene and benzene. A new family of highly charged crystalline microporous metallophosphate molecular sieves has been synthesized. These metallophosphates are represented by the empirical formula of:RAMEPOwhere A is an alkali metal cation, R is at least one quaternary organoammonium cation, M is a divalent metal such as zinc and E is a trivalent framework element such as aluminum or gallium. This family of high charge density metallophosphate materials are among the first metalloalumino(gallo)phosphate-type molecular sieves to be stabilized by combinations of alkali and quaternary organoammonium cations, enabling unique compositions. This family of high charge density metallophosphate molecular sieves has catalytic properties for carrying out various hydrocarbon conversion processes and separation properties for separating at least one component.

A new aluminosilicate zeolite designated UZM-50, methods of making the zeolite, and its use as a catalyst in hydrocarbon conversion processes are described. This zeolite is represented by the empirical formula:MRAlESiOwhere M is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, sodium, potassium, magnesium, calcium or combinations thereof, R is the organic structure directing agent or agents derived from reactants R1 and R2 where R1 is an amine essentially incapable of undergoing pyramidal inversion and having 7 or fewer carbon atoms, and R2 is a dihaloalkane, and E is an element selected from the group consisting of gallium, iron, boron and mixtures thereof. UZM-50 has utility in various hydrocarbon conversion reactions such as conversion of an aromatic molecule to another aromatic molecule.

Novel 1-oxa-4-azonium cyclohexane salts are described. These compounds can be used as structure directing agents, and they overcome many of the typical problems associated with OSDA synthesis and subsequent zeolite synthesis. Methods for synthesis of the 1-oxa-4-azonium cyclohexane salts from a variety of starting materials are also described. A substituted hydrocarbon is added to water to form a mixture, and a 1-oxa-4-azacyclohexane derivative is then added. The reaction mixture stirred until a solution containing the 1-oxa-4-azonium cyclohexane salt is obtained.

Aluminosilicate zeolite UZM-50

A new crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite comprising a new framework has been synthesized that has been designated UZM-55. This zeolite is represented by the empirical formula:MRAlESiOwhere M represents a metal or metals selected from zinc or Group 1 (IUPAC 1), Group 2 (IUPAC 2), Group 3 (IUPAC 3) or the lanthanide series of the periodic table including sodium, potassium or a combination of sodium and potassium cations, R is an organic structure directing agent or agents derived from reactants R1 and R2 such as where R1 is diisopropanolamine and R2 is a chelating diamine, and E is an element selected from the group consisting of gallium, iron, boron and mixtures thereof. Catalysts made from UZM-55 have utility in various hydrocarbon conversion reactions. The calcined zeolite is used in hydrocarbon conversion reactions.

A new crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite comprising a novel framework has been synthesized that has been designated UZM-55. This zeolite is represented by a three-dimensional framework of at least SiOtetrahedral units and an empirical composition in the as-synthesized and anhydrous basis expressed by an empirical formula of:MRAlESiOwhere M represents a metal or metals from zinc or Group 1 (IUPAC 1), Group 2 (IUPAC 2), Group 3 (IUPAC 3) or the lanthanide series of the periodic table, R is a structure directing agent or agents such as 1,6-bis(N-methylpiperidinium)hexane, and E is an element selected from the group consisting of gallium, iron, boron and mixtures thereof. Catalysts made from UZM-55 have utility in various hydrocarbon conversion reactions including methanol to hydrocarbons (MTH).

A method for producing jet-range hydrocarbons includes passing a stream comprising renewable Colefins to an oligomerization reactor containing a zeolite catalyst to produce an oligomerized effluent, separating the oligomerized effluent to produce a jet range hydrocarbon stream and a recycle stream comprising Colefins, and passing at least a portion of the recycle stream to the oligomerization reactor. A first at least about 10% of the jet-range hydrocarbon stream hydrocarbons boil between n-octane and n-undecane and wherein a second at least about 10% of the jet-range hydrocarbon stream hydrocarbons boil between n-dodecane and n-pentadecane.

A family of highly charged crystalline microporous metallophosphate molecular sieves designated PST-17 has been synthesized. These metallophosphates are represented by the empirical formula of:RAMEPOwhere A is an alkali metal such as potassium, R is a quaternary ammonium cation such as ethyltrimethylammonium, M is a divalent metal such as zinc and E is a trivalent framework element such as aluminum or gallium. The PST-17 family of molecular sieves are stabilized by combinations of alkali and organoammonium cations, enabling unique metalloalumino(gallo)phosphate compositions and exhibit the BPH topology. The PST-17 family of molecular sieves has catalytic properties for carrying out various hydrocarbon conversion processes and separation properties for separating at least one component.

Processes for oligomerizing olefins to produce diesel. The oligomerization zone temperature is controlled to counteract catalyst deactivation caused by coking, by contaminants such as cyclo C5 and/or cyclo C6 hydrocarbons, or both. The temperature is increased in increments to ensure that that the oligomerization zone is producing product at a target product yield with a target product quality, which may be measured by a product cetane number. The target product yield is at least 50 wt % and a target product cetane number may be at least 35.
