An audio module for use in a vehicle cabin. An elongated substantially sealed enclosure has two ends in the lengthwise direction. A first acoustic driver is mounted in the enclosure near one end of the enclosure for radiating acoustic energy from the end of the enclosure. A second acoustic driver is mounted in the enclosure near a second end of the enclosure for radiating acoustic energy from the second end of the enclosure. The audio module includes a bass augmenting device for radiating low frequency acoustic energy from the enclosure. The audio module is constructed and arranged to be pre-assembled so that the audio module can be installed in the vehicle as a single assembly. The audio module is configured to be mounted to the vehicle so that the lengthwise direction is substantially vertical with the first end of the enclosure higher than the second end of the enclosure.

Vehicle loudspeaker module

A spare wheel well cover includes an electro-acoustic transducer coupled to an opening in the spare wheel well cover. The spare wheel well cover and loudspeaker are arranged to cooperate with a spare wheel well to form an acoustic volume when the spare wheel well cover is secured to the spare wheel well.

A loudspeaker, amplifier, media source, user interface, and mechanical interface are all contained in a single unit. The unit has a first portion configured to mount in a vehicle radio mounting location and a second portion configured to extend significantly outside the vehicle radio mounting location.

Integrated vehicle audio system

An audio system includes mounting one or more speakers on the surface between an exterior side panel and an interior side panel of a door on a vehicle. The one or more speakers may face substantially along an axis in the longitudinal direction of the door. When the door is open, a cover may be controlled to extend over and close an opening in the interior side panel, thereby allowing sound from the one or more speakers to project to an exterior of the vehicle. When the door is closed, the cover may be controlled to expose the opening, thereby allowing sound from the one or more speakers to enter an interior of the vehicle through the opening.

Vehicle audio system including door-mounted components

The invention features a dual-mode audio system for an automobile which in one mode is configured for play while the doors to the automobile are closed, and in a second mode, is configured for play while a door, such as a tailgate, is opened. Additionally, the invention also features a battery monitor which monitors the operating condition of the battery and may estimate the energy capacity of the battery. The system may also take power conservation measures if the system determines that the engine is not running or the operating condition of the batter reaches a predetermined state. The invention also features a remote control integrated within a key fob for controlling the audio system. The invention features various orientations for mounting a pair of loudspeakers within an automobile which directly radiate sound out of a rear opening of the automobile.

Automobile audio system

Systems and techniques for controlling a surround sound system having multiple input signals and multiple spatially diverse transducers may include defining a first control region and a second control region. When operating in the first control region, a first set of functions is performed. For example, for each of the spatially diverse transducers, an input signal may be selected, a relative strength of the selected input signal may be adjusted, and the adjusted input signal may be applied to the transducer. When operating in the second control region, a second set of functions is performed. For example, for each of the spatially diverse transducers, two or more input signals may be selected, a relative strength of the selected input signals may be adjusted, the adjusted input signals may be mixed, and the mixed input signals may be applied to the transducer.

Controlling fading and surround signal level

A vehicle airbag inflator is provided which comprises a contained volume, a gas producing source for producing a main gas in the contained volume, an initiating system for causing the conversion of the gas producing source to the main gas, wherein the main gas comprises a working gas, and at least one exhaust orifice for providing an exhaust path for the working gas from the contained volume and for controlling the flow of the working gas as it is exhausted from the contained volume. The at least one exhaust orifice includes a contained volume closure for selectively creating a fluid-tight seal in the contained volume. The working gas creates a pressure-volume quantity in the contained volume (PV.sub.CV (t)). The working gas has associated with it a pressure-volume quantity for the cumulative amount of the working gas (PV.sub.cum (t)), and it also has associated with it a total pressure-volume quantity (PV.sub.total) when the gas producing source is fully converted to the main gas. The pressure-volume quantity in the contained volume (PV.sub.CV (t)) reaches a peak (PV.sub.peak) during the conversion of the gas producing source to the main gas that is at least about one half of the total pressure-volume quantity (PV.sub.total).
